FMIL & FSIL VENT!

FMIL & FSIL VENT!

Hello Ladies!!!

Well,
I have decided I will be needing a DOC for my wedding. There are a lot of extra things I need help with that day such as the set up of my candy buffet, menus, placecards, pew bows, flowers, etc. I also have a very overwhelming situation at home. My father is very ill, I have two disabled siblings, and just a lot to take care of that morning. I can't do it by myself. My maid of honor is my little sister. I don't expect her to fulfill all the MOH duties for many reasons. My FSIL is pregnant with her second child and my FMIL is too preoccupied with that right now. My mom is too busy with stuff going on at home. Honestly, I don't have much of a support system. I only have FH (in regards to the wedding planning) I work two jobs. M-F 8:30-10:00. I'm not home till 12 a.m. sometimes! FH's schedule is just as bad if not worse! We only have the weekends to run a gazillion errands. We're both extremely run down from life and work and our families really are not helping. So I mentioned the idea of DOC which at first was far fetched because we didn't think we'd afford it. I gave myself a crazy budget of less than 500 bucks and started to do my homework. I didnt think id find anyone but was surprised that I found so many vendors here on LIW that matched my price if not lower! I will be meeting with Modern DAy Affair this weekend and im tryuly excited because they gave me the best offer. A lot lower than I expected and not one but TWO coordinators. I was so happy last night and so was FH. I mean, we r having close 300 ppl at this wedding. We don't want to go nuts and argue and have to deal with nonsense that day!

I gotta tell you, FH and I have all of our vendors practically, and a lot of the thingns we need already and we are totally UNDER budget! why? because we did our homework. I have never been so frugal in my life!!! and I think a lot of it has to do with the fact that we're paying for the wedding. we're not getting any other money, or help. which is fine.

Anyway, so it first started with FSIL. I was so happy about the deal with got for the DOC that I texted her immedietely! I thought she'd appreciate it because I know she went thru ALOT on her wedding day. NOTHING went right and she was miserable! but she was mad. I mean MAD! she basically said it was a stupid expense, we were wasting our money when we can have other people help us like her. (really? with two babies?? and she's in the bridal party with her hubbie? impossible!!!) and she said 'don't worry you will have plenty of time during the cocktail hour to set up the candy table youself.' (really? before or after we take a gazillion pictures?)

So I told her (mainly to shut her up) that nothing was set in stone anyway and i was just trying to tell her about it.

Then FH got the rest of it from FMIL at home last night. I mean it was a BRAWL! Yelling about how we are wasting our money.

Can I just say that we are so good with everything so far(money wise). I'm making the girls boquets from silk flowers and menu cards,, place cards, favors, etc. We have saved so much money!

Our vendors aare included with our hall.

The money we want to use for the DOC is very minimal.

I just don't understand the problem. FSIL spent $3,000 on invites for her wedding! and while that's fine if you can afford it, I just don't see myself spending that much on anything unless its a huge vendors like limos, flowers, or music.

but WE get crapped on for spending almost NOTHING on something important like a DOC. I'm very dissapointed and saddended that we feel like we have no support. My family at least agrees that we need DOC's because they know that I freak out and that I have ALOT on my plate!

Since the moment FSIL got married, everything she did was perfect, she can do no wrong yadda yadda ydda. But FH and I, EVEYTHING we do gets questioned and im just tired of it. UGH!
anyway, what do u guys think about this? Do you guys think A DOC is important? I'd like to hear your input and maybe I can explain to FMIL and FSIL why they are so important.

sorry this was so long!!!! \

love you guys

you are not wrong and you should not be questioned about how you and your FH spend your money. let themcomplain at the end of the day its your money and your day and this DOC will be a huge help! we got one as well! and for the price, its totally worth it. i doubt if any of these people will man up that day and actually help you coordinate anything

Just a semi-random question - you said your DOC would help set up menus and the candy bar and whatnot ... but won't your RH do all that? I know my RH set up everything for me.

That said, i do think having a DOC is really nice (though i did not have one). they can help de-stress you and help keep you on track with time.

Your family has no say in what you book since they're not paying for anything .... if you want a DOC, get one!

A DOC is VERY important especially to someone like yourself. You have so many things going on! Shoot, if you had the money, I'd say get a full on coordinator. It looks like you need more help then a DOC. We have one and since we booked her, she's been my voice of reason, answered every question silly or not. It's helpful to know you have someone who's there to help you. Family can't help as much as they want because it's their celebration too. But a DOC, that's what she's there for. To help make your day go as smooth and possible.

Family can be so tricky sometimes. You thought she'd understand being she went through it herself and you get the complete opposite. Now you know better for next time. Keep all your plans to yourself. If you get b*tched out every time you do or book something, I wouldn't even mention it. And if asked, just say - we got it. Your FH should be handling his family for you. Nothing worse then stressing out and then people adding more unneeded stress to the mix.

Are they paying for anything? If they are paying or helping you pay, then maybe they feel like they have a right to say your wasting 'their' money. (even though I still think that's bull - it's your day and you do what you want no matter who's paying) and if they are not helping financially, then ***??

:

I would talk to FH about maybe not letting your inlaws in on your plans. Why should every decision you make and are happy with, be brought down? Not nice.

Unless some one else is paying for it its no ones business but your own!!!! i want a DOC and FH wont let me . Go for it!!! its a helpful thing to have. My parents were like that is what your matridee is for, but your wedding planner is someone that is on your side and is going to do what ever you need. the Matride is with the RH some of them do a lot for you but may not fo as far as setting things up that you need!

Sorry you are not having the support you want from your family. In the end, I'm sure they trust that you have everything under control - seems like you do and you just want someone to reassure your decisions are great. This is why this site is great, we ALL know how you feel when you want more input or reassurance. :hugs:

I began this wedding planning process thinking that I would not need a DOC. I have had pretty much the easiest time planning and organizing for the day of. I am WAY ahead of schedule. I haven't booked with a DOC yet but I will be soon - I too found a great deal for 2 coordinators - and let me tell you how much ease I feel already. My friends and family won't have to worry about staying on top of the timeline. My friends and family won't have to miss CH so that they can set up the room properly. The DOC will be there to make sure everything's running smoothly. Again, I think it's a great idea to get the DOC - what does your FH think?

Hey! yeah, the hall DOES take care of a lot but I still feel with that extra person on top, its will be fool proof in a sense. and with the DOC, you have unlimited communication tot he point where these people KNOW what you want, your style, etc. As opposed to workers who have NEVER met you. I don't want to put all my faith on the workers because I've worked in catering before and I know how they just don't care sometimes because to them, things can 'slide'. With a doc, this is what they do for a living, its their profession to be perfectionists and I really really like the way that sound! lmao

sorry you're going through this!

What is it to them if YOU want to spend the $500 for a DOC?? I wouldn't even bring the subject up again. Just book your DOC and sleep peacefully knowing all those little things will be taken care of!

Do they seriously expect YOU to be setting up your own candy buffet duing the CH? That day is going to go by fast as it is already-it's worth the $500 to have someone to take care of all those little things so that you can enjoy your day completely!

It's your money, it's your business and I think it's pretty considerate that you are attuned to other family member's own needs the day of your wedding, alleviating them from duties you might otherwise need them to help with. My wedding is small with just 100. I planned it in 4 months from start to finish. I still wanted a DOC so I don't have to 'work' on my wedding day and I need someone to keep people out of my way. Don't let others drag you down with their issues.

hi girl

first of all im sorry you had to deal with that. there is no reason for them to act so nasty

next, if you feel that you need one and FH agrees, the decision is your. you can book the DOC and not tell anyone except yourselves.

since you are already saving money on the wedding, and are so busy with working all the time, if thats what you like, dont let other peoples negativity bring you down

WHOA!

I think that there might be some bitterness from your FSIL.....If you and your FH have been planning and paying for this form day 1 and have managed to stay under budget and want to spend the money on a DOC then that should be only your choice together....no comments from the peaut gallery.....

Don't worry about what other ppl will think, thats not your problem. You kept your mouth shut when she and other ppl spend money on things that you might consider 'a waste' so just brush it off when others feel they have the right to give their opinion....

I agree with you....there is so much going on that day and you WILL NOT Have time to go and set up no candy bar....why not have an extra minute to just take a moment and steal time away from everyone to be with your FH or family or just to observe this party you spent so much time working on.

DOC are not as expensive as some think and I think they are well worth it if you can afford it and have a situation like you do...

Dont WORRY!
