FMIL gift for the wedding...is this okay?

I got her a nice pair of gold and diamond earrings.
They look like that, but in gold.

Do you think this is a good gift to give her as a thank you for the wedding??? she shelled out most of the money for the reception hall. I just am so worried that she is going to say 'this is all I get?' b/c that is sort of the kind of person that she is. What do you guys think?

If that's the type of person she is, then it doesn't seem like it matters what you get her, you'll get that reaction. Just give her the earrings and come up with some kind of retort to put her in her place. Be sure to write a nice thank you note as well so at least she'll feel appreciated. I hate it when there are strings attached to money people give you.

She wont say that b/c she is expecting to get back b/c of what she paid. She is just the type to think that everything anyone gives her is garbage. No matter what it is. And I am so scared that she is going to hate it. I mean, they cost me a couple of hundred dollars. They aren't cheap. She can't even wear fake jewelry, so I made sure I got her a nice pair of REAL diamond earrings. It was what I can afford, and I actually think its a nice gift. Besides money. I mean, she keeps telling us that she doesn't want any money, she wants us to keep everythng we get. So we will see.

i think thats a nice gift to get! i'm sure she would appreciate the thought/gesture, even if she doesn't necessarily like anything (believe me, i know plenty of people like this, no matter what i get them they just dont like it!). Include a nice heartfelt card with it

I think that is a very nice gift. Keep in mind your FMIL is helping with the wedding probably because she wants to, not because she expects a gift from you.
