FMIl hates menu

Re: FMIl hates menu

I dont think so.. personally i think there is always waayyyy too much food at weddings... by the end of the night i feel way over stuffed and sick by the end of the night.. FH and I are doing smaller cocktail and then doing the dinner in stations.. that way people can eat when they are hungry!... i usually am never hungry after cocktail hour.. so i say either so a big cocktail and no dinner or smaller cocktail and regular dinner... and remember it is a wedding... and if this is how you want your affair going then so be it.. FMIL will have to deal! ugggg... i cant stand when people (FMILs) do these things.. it is not that big a deal! oh wait.. i forgot this is their chance to show off.. and personnaly that doesnt fly with me! Fh and i want a party, not so much a formal 'thing' we are working our food the best we can to maximize dancing and mingling!... recently i had FMIL's wife telling me how to change color of the guys tie's and vests!.. um NO... FH and I agreed on a color a while ago... she had her wedding she can butt out of mine!

I think it is fine and as long as you and FH are happy that is all that matters. She will live and next time she opens her mouth tell her to:

Having gotten married upstate, cocktail hours aren't so......'overboard' as they are on LI, and I was worried my guests would *****.

I had a similar cocktail to yours, and it was fine. I worried about it from start to finish and I shouldn't have, in the end, who cares what other people think?

That sounds like my mom. FH and I wanted fewer stations and more passed foods, but my mother (who is paying) thought it was going to look 'skimpy' because 'people expect a lot of food at the CH.' If you're paying go with your gut - there will be plenty of food for everyone (not to mention that you're going to feed them a full meal in the next few hours, too). If she's paying, compromise is key.

Yeah, thats how I feel - well she is still NOT paying for anything- but of coures the damage is done and I feel awkward so we're adding a carving station in place of the scampi and adding a clam bar and shrimp cocktail bar.

Everyone is right, in the grand scheme of things this does not matter - it is a shame grown ups have to make other grown ups feel like **it. Its less than 20 days though and I know I can't let this eat me up any longer or I'll go insane.

Thanks everyone for chiming in - and all those who have since posted similar scenarios -it helps to hear it!

OMG - your FMIL and my FFIL must be the same person. He wants to take away the bread & cheese at CH becaust it 'looks cheap,' according to him. He wants to add a shrimp cocktail platter, but wants prawns (HUGE shrimp) the regular ones are not good enough. I can go on and on and on....

FFIL is paying for half the wedding so he certainly is entitled to voice an opinion, but this is not what I want. My dad will put his foot down. Yay for daddy!

lol!!! i went to a wedding at fox hollow and the CH was ridiculously huge!!!! the out-of-towners thought it was the actual wedding reception and nearly died when they heard it was only the CH. the HUGH shrimp will probably just get lost amongst the rest of the food. tell him to contribute the money to a down payment for a house instead!!!!

i dont think so.. ive been to weddings where there was only fruit and veggies with cracker and cheese... it was enough..

people are busy talking and having a good time..

AND PLUS - its true and upseting - someone will always have something to say - go with your gut and do what you want

oh please!!!!!! my guests stuffed their faces at the CH and were probably not hungry at all when they sat down to eat their meal. everyone knows that the CH food is the best part anyway.

don't worry about it. the problem with people is that everyone has an opinion. this is YOUR wedding. maybe they just need to be reminded of that!
