FMIl hates menu

FMIl hates menu

FH is on the phone now with FMIL. She hates the menu - she thinks its 'skimpy'. We are having 2 stations at cocktail hour -plus a reception table with fruit and vegetables plus 8 passed hor deuvres - is that skimpy? If so, please let me know.

Its b/c the wedidng is not 'her type of wedding' -and I'm going to scream - it is MY type of wedding lady, okay? If it were up to her it would be a tacky affair. I'm trying to make it elegant and to my family's liking too.

ARgh - just had to vent!

Nothing you do will ever be good enough !
I had to accept that, if she wants more she tell her to pay for it.

I think if you like it , it's fine. You cannot please everyone, so don't try!!

No I don't think that is skimpy at all. And its your day, so you should try not to let her get to you, I know its hard.

Your wedding is the early part of the afternoon. Mine is even a little earlier and we are only doing fruit, vegetables, cheeses, breads and 15 passed hor d'ourves. I didn't think people would want to eat a lot at that hour.

She said we should get another station - and I asked if she's paying for it since thus far, aside from my shower -which granted she was generous for - they have paid zero towards the wedding. If you want it lady - then pay for it - not even an offer to pay for it!

I agree about the food early afternoon - here's the thing though, my reception actually starts at 5 on Sunday. Maybe it should be more! Argh, I don't know- this less than 20 days before my wedding.

UPDATED: FH got off the phone she 'doesn't like it at all, not one bit'!

I'm sorry, who's wedding is this? YOURS!! who cares what she wants? Yea, it's nice to be accomodating but this is YOUR day and you should have whatever YOU want. Don't worry about it, she'll just have to deal with not controlling it!!!

Wow, sounds jsut like my situation. I didn't want a vienesse hour or a ton of stations. I'm just having passed hor dourves and fruit, veggie and cheese display. I like it better. It's a wedding not a food orgy. I politley informed my FMIL that when her daughter gets married and she;s paying she can do whatever she likes.

This is your wedding. If she doesn;t like it, tough. She's not paying

The FMIL issue is a touchy subject for me right now, so I say... Tell her to keep her F****** mouth SHUT! LOL sorry Just had to vent.. I can't stand my FMIL and her family, they like to cause as much drama as they possibly can.

If she does not like the menu, and she has the balls to tell you this, it's not very nice.. if she is the only one that has complained about it, I mean how bad could it be?

Exactly my feeling.

Do MILs take lessons in how to be royal pains in the arses - it sounds like it!

I have an even better idea.. Tell her to just go stuff her face with pastries and shush up! Sorry.. I'm kinda delerious today b/c I just dealt with a whole bunch of DRAMA from my FMIL too.

Re: FMIl hates menu

If it's YOUR type of wedding why on earth do you care what FMIL thinks?? After all - YOU are the bride, not her. She already had her wedding, and I'll venture to say it was at least 20 years ago when there were no fruit and vegetable displays - only passed hor 'doeurvres, IF there even was a cocktail hour at her wedding!!!!!

As for your other question, is it skimpy? I am answering this question based on the assumption that you are asking if cocktail hour is skimpy. That depends on whose standard you are measuring it by. If you compare it to the 'typical' Long Island wedding - perhaps. If you compare it to a wedding any other place in the country - ABSOLUTELY NOT!!! But, if you compare it to what YOU want, again I have to say ABSOLUTELY NOT!!! You and your FH decided on what you wanted, and simply put that should be good enough!! If it's not her type of wedding, she can stay home!

Good for you!!! So... what did she say?? I'm guessing she did not opt to pay for it?!

If she's not paying for it tell her to lay off. If she wants to pay for the extra food than I would agree to it.

I'm so sorry you have to go through this. It's posts like this that make me ever more grateful that FMIL and I get along great!

Re: FMIl hates menu

My MIL (who I really like) saw our CH menu of two pasta stations, two carving stations, six hot dishes, fruit, veggies, etc. and said that it was not enough!

Do whatever you feel best with. At my friend's wedding in Rochester, the 'CH' consisted of fruit, veggies, cheese, crackers. No passed anything, and no place to sit.

Re: FMIl hates menu

OMG - your FMIL and my FFIL must be the same person. He wants to take away the bread & cheese at CH becaust it 'looks cheap,' according to him. He wants to add a shrimp cocktail platter, but wants prawns (HUGE shrimp) the regular ones are not good enough. I can go on and on and on....

FFIL is paying for half the wedding so he certainly is entitled to voice an opinion, but this is not what I want. My dad will put his foot down. Yay for daddy!

ugh!! what a pain!!! these kinds of posts always drive me nuts because its GROWN ADULTS turing their KIDS weddings into competitions wiht their friends over who can throw their kids the best wedding.... what are we, in third grade???
' nah nah my party was better than your party!'
seriously, grow up a little!
ETA: as far as whether or not its skimpy... who cares?? the people that come should be there because they want to share your day with you- not becasue of how full they'll be.... if they complain, they have bigger problems...

Are you happy with it?
Is your FH happy with it?

If the answer to those 2 questions is yes then you don't need to worry about anyone else!! Relax and enjoy your day!!

Repeat after me: My pay, my way!!!!!!!
