FMIL Paying for Photographer Etiquette

FMIL Paying for Photographer Etiquette

Hi Ladies, I have a friend that is dealing with an interesting situation. She asked for my advice, but I am not sure what to tell her. Her brother is getting married and her mom offered to pay for their photographer. The Bride to Be emailed her FMIL (my friend's mom) telling her that she and her mom already picked the photographer and will need a deposit by next week.

My friend and her mom were really hurt by this. Since the mom offered to pay for the photographer, she assumed she would be asked to go look at photographers and help with the decision. Now my friend is hurt, because her FSIL upset her mom.

I think if someone, especially my FMIL, offered to pay for anything for my wedding I would take them with me to the appointments. I mentioned to my friend to have her mom say something to Bride to Be or her son, but I do not think that will happen.

Is anyone dealing with a similar situation?

Yes - I def think she should have asked. BUT I also think it depends on the In-laws and the relationship you have with that person...

Like I know my FIL's can be so opinionated it would just ruin the experience for me (ex: I brought them with us when we signed the contract - DISASTER!! LOL).

FH's parents are giving us a sum of $ to pay for DJ and Flowers - however, I don't think I will be going flower shopping with her, ya know?. Maybe once the final decision is made based upon our likes, I will ask her to come along.

Hopefully it will all work out for your friend!

I think if it was her brother and the bride-to-be that went out and found a photographer they liked and then asked his mom for the deposit that would be fine but if the bride to be took her mom I don't see why she wouldn't invite her FMIL if she's going to be paying for it. Maybe if the FMIL isn't going to say anything maybe your friend could just talk with her brother and make mention that it would have been nice to include their mother since she's paying.
