FMIL: please tell me she's kidding

FMIL: please tell me she's kidding

I absolutely love my FMIL as if she were my own mother. I give her so much credit because she is literally working 24 hrs a day to pay for our flowers for the wedding---i feel terrible but she continues to insist. She really doesn't understand how much things cost, especially since this is her first son getting married. She tells me that she wants to do something 'different' for the RD. Automatically 'different' makes me sick to my stomach. She originally wanted to have it at her sisters house 45 minutes away from the church which we politely said no to because it's not fair to have everyone drive that far. Then when we think we have it figured out (we found an option that would work for her, that she could do everything and it wouldnt cost more than $500 max!) She tells me 'i think im going to look into having it at a chinese buffet.' I seriously thought she was kidding but to my surprise she wasn't!!! My face DROPPED!!! I wouldnt mind it but we have 50-60 people for the RD. She insists on paying for it herself.---oh and one other thing---she didnt think people in the bridal party should be invited with their date/spouse!!!!!!! I was like ummm so i guess your son isnt going to bring his gf of three years (meaning fh's brother). She changed her mind about that!!! HELP ME!!!!!!
Am i being irrational?????

Thats why i told her whatever she decides is up to her and it's her time to do whatever she wants. I don't want to hurt her but FH tells me afterward 'lin you dont even have to say anything, ill talk to her' I was shocked cause i didnt even bring it up. I just hope he convinces her to have it at the other location. You have to remember, we have 8 kids in our bridal party....5 under the age of 5 and i dont think they will do well in a confined restaurant like a crowded buffet.

I love her to death though and she really is trying to do something nice for her. The other place is similar to a VFW hall...it has a dance floor full serving area, kitchen area but its in a fire house so its only $100 to rent. Its such a nice room though for that amount of people. I have servers who are reasonable and with all the food and drink it came out to $480 for EVERYTHING including DIY invites and decorations. But at least the kids can run around and we can stay till whatever time we want.

Even the 2 year old (just turning 2 that month) and the girl in my bridal party who has an allergic reaction to chinese food? We just have too many people and too many kids...our bridal party is 32 people alone. Then parents, and our readers and even our deacon all on a friday night at 8:00.

ohhhh thats why... i had posted on the other board for ur post that i thought 50 was a lot of people for rd ... i see why now. .. i like the fire house idea - ask her why she does not like that? i think it would be the same cost as the chinese food.

good luck

The chinese buffet in Rockville Centre has a back party room. It wasnt bad at all and they had a dj too!! Does the place your FMIL is thinking of have that?

No you definately are not!!! You should be making the decisions along with her and she should be okay with the things you voluneer =

we're having our rehearsal dinner at the banquet room in our OOT hotel, since 1/2 of the bridal party + FILs are OOT. I dont know the logistics of how it works but I think it's really inexpensive.

Yikes, that is a big reason why I don't want anyone paying for things for our wedding!

Re: FMIL: please tell me she's kidding

nope unfortunately not...the entire place is one big room. I'm just afraid with my friend who is allergic...but also, running a tab on drinks is going to be way too much $$ for her. At least if she had it at the place im talking about, fh and i could buy some of the stuff and just bring it without telling her. I want her to feel special because i appreciate everything she is doing for us. The chinese buffet just isnt going to work for our volume and ages of people.
