FMIL problems..HELP!!

Here goes...bear with me ladies....My wedding is in November and my parents are footing the bill for which I am extremely grateful..I have two babies( 2 months and 16 months) and live with my FH so they really don't need to pay for anything but wanted to give us a nice wedding. I have like twice as much family as FH so the list does have more from my side on it...FH was fine with that, we made the list together back in December. The invitations were sent out a month ago....his mother waits until after they are sent out to ask FH if she can invite friends, he said no...she b*tches to my sister that they only have 40 people while we have like 90....she says her sister and neice are mad they didn't get guests..we only gave people guests if they are living with or engaged to someone...his aunt and cousin aren't...the room can only hold a certain amount of people and I think my family should be there rather than strangers....I told FH's cousin that if we get 'no' responses I'd let her know so she can bring her boyfriend....FH and I agreed to give some 'no's' to his parents....I haven't spoken to his mother about it b/c I feel that if she has a problem she should come to me instead of complaining behind my back and until she does..I know nothing...am I being childish? My daughter was in NICU for a month and life is so precious and I just wish she would remember that..family comes first to me so I'm going to have family at my wedding first.....my mom said we should have given her X amount of people to invite, that's the proper way, but then I wudn't have been able to invite some of MY friends and I think that's unfair too.....back when we made the list his parents weren't speaking to us, they were mad we don't let them run our lives....but even then my mom and I questioned FH about if he thought his parents would want certain people there...he kept telling us no, no, no....now when FMIl starts complaining he needs to see the list, count the people, the list should be in half.....he DID see the list, MY parents are paying, why should the list be in half? This woman always creates drama in my life b/c she loves drama in hers and I just wish she wouldn't be such a child b/c I don't have time for it!!! Am I being wrong?

I do feel your pain, we had to cut the list on his mothers side, she 'thinks' she paied for 1/3rd but she didnt and i know she 'talks about how she PAID to people... i wont go into the things she said about helping to pay for her other sons wedding (again MORE than half the guests wer hers, you'd think it was HER wedding) she had more than half the guests, never mind certain THINGS she would insist on... like a band that cost 3-4x's as much... my parents paid for a LARGE chunk and DH and i Paid a LARGE chunk too... let her B!tch.. as long as FH is telling her 'off' i wouldnt worry about that, there are worse thing she could do BELIEVE ME! MY FMIL is the most self centered, selfish person i have EVER MET, it is really unreal! Not to mention the 'stuff' she has pulled on FH and myself to 'get her way' and how terribly inconsiderate, inappropriate, and disrespectful she is to MY guests and family! he has had many one sided loud conversations with her.. you need to let FH handle her and it sounds like he is upto that based on what you are saying?!?! and that is a GOOD thing!

Not worth bad karma over a few guests. Just remember she can make your life miserable after the wedding on a daily basis. I'm all for keeping the peice with In-laws. Your stuck with her for a long time. Get her on your side as early as possible. I yes my FMIL to death she can't pick a fight with me and it's burning a hole in her stomach. My FH thinks am wonderful for being so sweet to her.

You're not being wrong, but I could see both points. It's difficult. If she wants to pay for her guests, then go for it! But until you are married, and even after, let FH deal with his side of the family. Ask how he feels about it and if he wants to speak to his mom. His side of the family, his chance to speak up.
