FMIL telling me when I should have my shower

So just got off the phone with FMIL who 'suggested' I have my bridal shower on Thurs...the day before my wedding since she & all the aunts on FH's side want to come from out of state for the shower...or that Tues the week of....um hello? My friends work for a living....and I will have about 1 million things to do Thurs the DAY BEFORE!!!!

I told her here in NY we do it like a MONTH before...and that usually a shower is a surprise......aaarrrggghhhhh....I am just fuming right now because there is nothing I hate more than people 'suggesting' to me what i should do!

Don't worry. I would explain to her that you are going to be extremely busy the week before your wedding and usually we have showers a month or two before the wedding.

I completely understand about people 'suggesting' things. My FSIL keeps suggesting I change my RH b/c of a 3 hr time difference.
It is my wedding and I will do what I want!!!

There is always someone who has to put their two cents in... Don't worry about it. Your gonna have it your way anyway!!!

DUH! Who has a shower the day before thier wedding? I plan on going to the spa the day before my wedding.

That is very strange and probably the first time I ever heard of someone suggesting that. It's not fair to you at all. Try and be strong and tell them that day is just not good for you or your BM's.

I understand your frustration, but you don't want to upset or insult your FMIL, right? I would explain the whole NY thing and that you'll have a lot to do that Thurs, but what if you do a little luncheon (thrown by her!) for you and a few members of her family for earlier in the week of the wedding? You'd only have to set aside maybe 2-3 hours, and you could make everyone happy? In the end, do what you want to do, and don't stress!!

that's a good idea.

i'd just explain it to her. i'm sure she wasn't trying to be pushy, she just doesn't get the ny thing and wants to be involved.

i'm sure it's frustrating though. oh fmil.... mine wants us to 'just stay engaged.'

I just laugh when she said 'i know you are stressed and don't want to stress you more....BUUUUT it would be nice if'....

That's a great idea...I am trying to think of something special for them...since it's FMIL...and FH's aunts & his 94 year old grandma that want to come for the shower and they are all in Indiana or Florida! I was thinking maybe having the shower Sunday afternoon before the wedding (which is a Friday)?...but this luncheon idea is great! I could take them all out with my mom or something...thanks!!!!!

I agree-I hate when people tell me what I should do and I always just rebel against them.
I would tell her that you have other things-such as the RD, last minute running around and there is no way for your shower to be this week. Good luck!

IF they really want to be there- NO MATTER what date is chosen then they wil be there. So don't worry about them....
