so, I showed our ice cream scoop favor to FMIL and what was surprised by how 'nice' they were. then she started saying how we shouldn't be going into dept and stuff like that. all I could do was laugh...I told her they weren't that expensive at all, they just LOOK that way and not to worry- we are and plan to remain, debt free.
they are just not used to this kind of thing. it should be fun to see them trying to add what they THINK is the cost of everything...
we'll be seeing A LOT of this from our families.

I think my post sounds a little bad...
they are from Central America and are not used to stuff like this at all. You think your guests from other cities are surprised by a Long Island Wedding...imagine what it looks like to people from a small town in Guatemala!

I agree with you. My FH parents are old school PRicans and I love them dearly BUT they say the darndest things sometimes about why we're spending so much money. I keep telling them that the wedding is supposed to look expensive but really isn't
If they knew how much we're spending they'd totally lose it.
They'll be together 50 years in three years and she tells us 'I don't want you spending money just because it's our anniversary' I'm like yeah ok Mom!!! You gotta love the older generation!!

Yea, I brought my grandmother to hear my DJ at a showcase. It wasn't the loud music that got to her, it was the price of the packages that she couldn't beleive!!!!

I can totally relate!! My DH's mom thinks the reason we don't give her a grandkid is because we're in debt from the wedding!! I even mentioned to her over New Year's how much of a deal we got by having our wedding on a Friday and she said 'oh no, your deals are not deals to me'... She has no idea how much anything was!!
