FMIL Vent

FMIL Vent

Omg, my FMIL really doesn't know how to think before she speaks. I'm soo annoyed I had to vent to someone. So, my FSIL got tickets to the circus tomorrow to take her son and she has 5 extra free tickets. They wanted me to go but I really don't want to and I told FH to just go for his nephew and younger cousins. FMIL is also going and when she found out I wasn't going, made a big deal about it.

I went over today and she tells me that she's not going either because I'm not going and I just was like 'oh yeah, okay.' She's a drama queen. Then she has the nerve to ask me if I care about family. OMFG, I spend more time with FH's family than my own. Maybe I wanted to spend my time tomorrow with my own family. I just brushed it off because I didn't want to ruin my day, but now all I'm thinking about is how I should havve spoken my mind. But then that would not have been a pretty scene afterward, because then she would start crying and making herself look like the victim. She did that the last time she said something stupid and I spoke my mind. And gave me a stupid apology telling me that she didn't mean to hurt my feelings. Sorry, that was not a real apology.

So I chose not to fight this battle. But really ***, 'do you care about family?' It's the freaking circus lady, get over it. We all went last year, I don't need to go every year.

There I feel better just complaining about it.

I am so glad you were able to vent. Use us as a sounding board. All i can visualize is the mother from EVERYONE LOVES RAYMOND... and you as Deborah... I feel for you. You response next time should just be - very matter of factly - of course I care about family. I'm spending the day with my parents...that is why I am not going.

It may make her think twice if you keep responding to her like that - very casually. WHY must people test you all the time? Can you tell you aren't the only one that goes through this? LOL

I can totally relate- my FMIL is the same way. I think they all are to be honest...I think something just comes over them and they feel like another woman is taking their place and they loose all sense of what is right and wrong. It ***** to be feeling the way you feel right now too because the more 'appeasing' you are toward her actions, the more it kills you inside.

I say talk to your FH and see what he says- sometimes that's hard to hear for them too because it's his mother...so don't expect change but, if you HAVE to vent and you think he can help the situation then- tell him.
All I have to say is don't let it get too far and just be the bigger person. Once a big major fight happens between the family it kind of sets the tone of how your life with them will be...so act cautiously and try to stay above her and her comments

As hard as it is...you have to brush her off.

Welcome to my world. Actually, we have all told FMIL that she is Marie Barone to a T. I always get the 'I think you should do this.....but do what you want.....'

I agree with saying that you were not going to spend the day with YOUR family. Maybe she needs to remember that now that you and FH are getting married, there are 2 families involved.

If this makes you feel better, my FMIL generally calls me by FH's ex-wife's first name. the same ex-wife he had to get a restraining order from!
