FMIL Vent! How condescending!

FMIL Vent! How condescending!

OK so I have 32 rooms reserved at the Hyatt for my wedding night. 7 of those are for the bridal party.
My FMIL wants to have a brunch the morning after for her family at the Hyatt. So when she calls to find out about setting that up they tell her that they have 2 large events going on that weekend and are not sure they will be able to accommodate her.

So now she's freaking out that we won't have enough rooms and where is she gonna have the brunch... blah blah.

We have also booked a bunch of rooms at the Holiday Inn Express. FH and I went there ourselves and checked it out and were surprised with how nice it was! We felt confident that any of our guests would be more than comfortable staying there.

OK so here's the part that ticks me off:
FMIL says to me 'All of my family is going to want to stay at the Hyatt and that's going to be about 20 rooms so you may not have enough blocked.... I know my family won't stay at the Holiday Inn Express because my family doesn't like the Holiday Inn...we have bad experiences with it and they're not going to want to stay there'
IMO her words and tone implied that the Holiday Inn is below their standards!!

I'm like, excuse me?????? W T F?? SO your friends and family are going to hog all the rooms at the Hyatt b/c the Holiday Inn isn't good enough for you, but it's good enough for MY FAMILY?

I want my family at the Hyatt too b/c that's where I'M STAYING!! I'm the freaking bride!

Honestly, it is all about who books the rooms first, so you better get on the phone and tell them to do it ASAP!!!

I would call my fam and tell them to book, ASAP. If her fam is not happy with the Holiday Inn, they can find another place to stay. You block rooms to try and make it convenient for your guests, but it is NOT your responsibility to make sure they all have a room.... they are adults. Don't think about it too much. There are plenty off hotels and they can always meet at the Hyatt for brunch. Gook luck with crazy fam... unfortunately I understand.

First--can you block more rooms at the Hyatt? If not, tell your family to book their rooms ASAP! And where is this, exactly? There are other hotels, too. It's nice to be able to just walk downstairs and go to brunch, but if they stay somewhere else, they can drive to the brunch, especially if it's only a few blocks. If you're talking about the area around MacArthur airport, there are a bunch of hotels right around there. Several of my guests stayed at the Hilton Garden Inn and really liked it, it was both cheap and quite nice.

And, yeah, your FMIL is pretty condescending.

I called the Hyatt about blocking more rooms, but they said if I change the contract I have to guarantee 80% of the rooms will be booked. If not I will end up paying for left over rooms. Which would really S U C K

The Hyatt is in Hauppauge and the Holiday Inn Express is in Hauppauge too. Not far from one another - maybe 2 miles? So if guests had to drive to the brunch I really don't think it would be that big of a deal.
The brunch is only for FMIL family. Which is fine, but still, it was just the tone of her delivery about the hotels that really rubbed me the wrong way.
