FMIL Vent....Am I overreacting??

Girls I'm venting!!! Please tell me if I'm going nuts and making a big deal??

I'm having a wedding reception back home in my country (Trinidad) on 08/08. My mom and dad give me their guest list but FMIL never gave me hers. Whatever I didnt make a big deal. She had a rough idea in her head so I gave her some invites.

3 weeks before the wedding - people are still calling. I was supposed to call the caters and give them a head count and of course I can't because people are still calling and she DOESNT have a list.

I proceeded to call her and ask if she could at least give me a head count. She can't. Then I proceeded to tell her how upset I was over this because I don't want to cater for example 100 people and 150 show up or I dont want to cater for 150 people and 100 show up. It's costing me money as well as all the hard work, etc.

She proceeds to tell me: 'well if it's more money, I'll give it to you!!' L Ike ***!! That's not even the point!! You insulted me by saying that. She get even more mad and says she wishe she didnt invite anyone and this is to much headache and she can't deal with all this stress.

W T F - what stresss. I'm the one getting married and YOU'RE stressed!!
Am I overreacting??? Am I making a big deal about this??

TIA - I need to vent!!

I don't think you're overreacting...you were honest and upfront. She should've just given you a list and everything would've been better.

Honestly....I wuold ask the caterer when is that absolute las date you can give him a head count and then cushion the number you get by that date with 5-10 extras.

You are NOT overacting. Has she never been to a wedding before? Does she not know that the caterers need a headcount? She must understand that at any event, the host needs to be able to give the caterer the total number of people who will be present!

Thanks girls...The last day to give the cater a head count is end of next week. That's not even the issue. She's blaming me and said some people didn't even receive more invites. Not my problem lady.

she needs to stop it and give u d*mn list. how does she possibly expect you to have the proper amount of food. does she realize this is a 'wedding' and not a backyard BBQ?

had she given you a list this wouldn't be happening...she is just trying to pass of her irresponsibility as yours. Whoever doesn't get invited just doesn't get invited at this point and they deserve to know that she didn't give you their names.

I really don't like her right now for you!

No. I think she wants it to be HER wedding. She doesn't like the colors I'm using, she doesn't like the idea of me wearing blue shoes, etc, etc.

I don't think your overreacting at all. My FMIL waited along time also to give me her list and then kept adding and taking people off right to the last min. I think every bride deals with this at one point or the other.

Your not overreacting.... how does she not know who she invited...maybe you can just give a cut off date and if anyone calls you after that date tell them that you are very sorry but it is too late

you are def. not overreacting. Maybe you can just ask FH for a list of who he would like to invite on his side so you dont have to deal with her? I feel for you with this situation...

tell her that you will give a count with only those whose names you have, anybody else there will not be a seat for them.

Dont worry about her not liking what you're doing. I am sure the day comes she will be eating her words. She'll see how beautiful everything is and how much fun everyone is having and just focus on that.

Its funny that you say she doesnt like you wearing blue shoes. Now both my mom and MIL liked the idea but MIL told me that some people at the wedding were asking her 'why is she wearing blue shoes?' they were confused lol i guess maybe they thought i forgot to get white shoes and just wore whatever or who knows what they think
