OMG - FMIL told me she was looking at a Champagne colored Strapless dress with a ball gown skirt!!!
Is it me, or does this sound bride-like? Of course it didn't hit me until AFTER I said 'just pick Whatever you Like' and hung up the phone!!!!!!!!!
AHhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!

just be careful. We had a huge fall out with my MIL over her dress. It may not be worth it for you to get into this with her.

I know.... you are so right. If she does end up with that dress, she will be the one who is trying to look like the bride that day and everyone will see it!!!

I agree, just let her wear whatever she wants. You are the belle of the ball regardless!

Re: FMIL's Dress
My MIL wore an champagne colored dress. I wasn't thrilled about it, especially since mt dress was ivory. But at the end of the day it didn't even matter. Don't let it stress you out.

IMO, that sounds like a very nice and formal dress. Not bridal at all.

Re: FMIL's Dress
Champagne dresses really don't look anything like white so i would not fret to much. My MIL wore champagne and it did not look white at all. Unless she was wearing a close color to white i would not bother to get into it with her.

Re: FMIL's Dress
The color is not a bad idea, champagne is a common color for the mom's of the bride/groom. I think the style she wants (ball gown) is taking it a step too far so yes you need to have a sit down with her and try to talk her out of it.
Good luck

Re: FMIL's Dress
I told my FMIL that she could wear any color she wants as long as it isn't WHITE or RED. I don't thinkshe has to match MY mom at all and certainly not the BP because they won't be in any pictures together. Both my mom and FMIL are plus-sized ladies who tend to shy away from light colors. I am sure they will each pick tasteful and elegant dresses.
Champagne is fine though. I dont thinkanyone could steal the spotlight from a bride. JMO.

Re: FMIL's Dress
I understand totally how you feel. I would not fret over it. Just be honest. If you would rather not have her wear a ball gown dress then just be honest with her. I have found out that honesty is the best way to handle how you feel. If you think she is the type of person that would need to be reminded not to wear white, then you remind her. (i would have to remind my FMIL...he he) If the ball gown thing is really getting you, then explain nicely to her that you would rather not have her wear a ball gown b/c you want to be the only one in a big ball gown type of dress. Don't let it get to you, but be honest w/ her without causing hard-feelings.

Re: FMIL's Dress
I would ask your FH to talk to her. I mean come on, that isn't right! This is your day to shine, she had hers already! Even offer that she may wear a different color dress (blue prehaps?) and maybe a princess and not a ball gown. Why not suggest to go gown shopping with her. Tell her you wanna bond.

Re: FMIL's Dress
it depends on the color- by that i mean, champagne can be ALOT of different things. i had a bm dress once that was called champagne but was actually more gold- nowhere near white or ivory.
