Hello Ladies, What happens when you don't like your FMIL's dress? My FMIL and I get along great. Yesterday she showed me her 'options' and I hate every one of them. I gave her a swatch of the color yesterday but what she showed me was totally off. My colors are plum and silver. She showed me a lalic suit, a green suit and a hot pink suit. I'm thinking of just buying her a dress myself. But I'm not sure how she would take it. Any advice?

My mom is in navy and fmil is in teal. BM's are in pink.

Maybe you can convince her to get a darker color? Since she will be in professional pics? My mother got a dress in a light green/blue color (I wanted her in silver but she couldn't find a dress in that color) & FMIL is in dark blue. My grandma got a silver dress though! Lol My girls will be in a deep chiffon red

FMIL's Dress
Crashing!!
My FSIL just got married this past weekend, and after 4 months of looking and trying on dresses, FMIL got a dress that I found unflattering on her. It wasn't a crazy color, luckily I know her favorite color is black because she thinks it's slimming, but it was too tight, and too young for a grown adult. She explained to me that she likes jersey fabric, because of a health issue, her stomach can expand very rapidly from one day to the next, but I felt that there were definitely better, more flattering options.
When I spoke to FSIL about it, she said 'Well, she's the one who is going to judge herself most harshly in photos, so if she feels that it looked good on her, who am I to argue?'
I already decided that I am going to tell my mother and FMIL a color and material and let them get whatever they'd like within those parameters. But unfortunately, I don't think telling them what to wear or that you don't like what they already chose is going to make them any more willing to change what they wear.

FMIL's Dress
Thank you ladies... Very funny. @sgf2 That's how my dilemma started. I gave my FMIL a swatch of the color and fabric of the BM dress which she didn't like...
