FMIL's Holiday Comments

Anyone have their FMIL drop an awkward comment or say anything rude at Thanksgiving?

My FH is from MD and the gift process is different, and something I am not used to. At the wedding they give gifts, not money. So I guess I will have to register for a TON of things, past shower. But I am not sure of what? Fancy things?

Well, she asks me, like yells from the kitchen, are you going to register for a silver set? (I wasn't planning on it, last thing I want to do is polish silver or find a place for it in my teeny condo!) and I said, Umm, not sure.

And she says 'I'll tell you what my mother told me, if you don't pick it out, you won't get anything from me'

What the heck! ???

well then HER mother was clearly a nasty influence. LoL. Just tell her 'well you may do it differently in MD, but here on earth, the recipients of gifts do not TELL the givers what to get. The givers use their best judgment and let their hearts do the shopping.' But this may be a problem since it seems like she may not have a heart?

ETA.... sorry, that was probably uncalled for. My ex-FMIL was a wretched beeyotch so I take out my aggression on all FMILs that show a little neurosis.

No! I love it!!!! She is so nice, but then comes out with rude commentsthat I just do not know how to react to. I said 'ok, I'll register for silver' (and to myself, that I will NEVER USE) I love that I can vent on here!!!

Yikes!!! thats not a fun thing to hear on Thanksgiving. lol
We've been remodeling the basement to make it a live-able appt, and have been planning the wedding (without the ring) so we heard a billion times 'Well, are you pregnant?' and 'We'll believe it when we see the ring'
(I have a promise ring but to the family, its NOT enough grrr)
