Why is this such an issue! s it wrong to just have open seating?
They are yelling and screaming at eachother right now...

The problem with open seating is that if a couple walks in last and everyone sat, there maybe 1 seat left at table 5 and one seat left at table 7 and they'd have to be split up.. Doing the table seating ensures that people who might want to sit together do.
Who's arguing about it though? That's annoying, whoever they are shouldn't care, it's not their wedding.

we just recently went to a wedding like this with the open seating and we had to ask a couple if they didnt mind sitting at the table next to us since most of our group was already sitting there. It was not too bad they had no problem moving it was the asking part that was a little awkward

I went to a wedding once with open seating and it was fine for us - but i see where the concerns of others could pose a problem..
make sure there is some extra seats if you do that

my parents are sitting with their siblings and their friends are at the next table the kids are at an entirely different table
but his mom is sittitin with her kids/family
I would just do what they want it will make it easier in the long run - hopefullly they can all agree
