Follow up: ETA: Someone stole my Identity!!

I am so pissed! With less than 3 weeks before my wedding, I have to deal with this crap!!! I feel so violated!!!

So Friday, I get a bill in the mail for emergency services that I never had at New Island Hospital!!! I am so pissed off. When I called the billing dept. they confirmed my Date of Birth and Social Security. Someone stole my info!!! She was in there for dizziness. So now, the police are on their way to get a report from me. I want to make sure I call all the right agencies. Has this ever happened to anyone? Who did you Call to make sure this person has not already opened up credit lines in my name?

ETA: Thanks everyone!! This is definetly an eye opener. But, I feel foolish because about 1 hr. ago, I put 2 and 2 together and I think I know what happened. My father asked me 'Didn't Greg take you to the emergency room?' I thought my dad was confusing greg with my ex b/c my ex had taken me years ago previously. So I told him, ' I have never been to that Hospital!' Okay, I kept thinking of my daddy's words. And yes, I went tothat hospital 4 years ago and yes, there is another Judy who Lives in LI. So what probably happened was that this 'Judy' went to the emergency and the hospital mistakenly got my info from the computer. I am almost positive this is what happened. Of course, I need to check with the Hospital first thing in the morning, I already called police. I am so upset b/c I hope I don't have problems when I need to get credit check. I am so upset with the Hospital. I was so stressed this weekend thinking about it.

I am sorry to hear that this happened to you but this actually happened to me twice. Make sure you call all three credit report agencies and get copies of your reports. Make sure you get a copy of the police report and your case number in case you need it.

wow! i'm so sorry! i have no advice for you, but this is really a wake up call. it is a low down world out there. i'm sorry you have to deal with this!

I was just at Citibank and I happened to tell the woman how great those commercials are for theft like that & she showed me a brochure on what to do if this happens to you...
Go there and get it - in the back there is a form letter that you would write to creditors, etc.
Sorry - that sucks - you feel so violated...

Thanks, I called Equifax and they will notify Experian and Transunion. I hope this doesn't happen to anyone else. Especially, a few weeks before their wedding.

Those are the three agencies and I would call them all direct not rely on one of them to contact the others.

Wwo that is so horible! Do you have any idea how this happened? You should get a shredder and shred every semi important papers you have. If you do any financial stuff on your computer, you should have good anti virus software (up to date) and a firewall. Viruses can comprimise your computer and let hackers in!

ahhh.. that sucks! I am sooo sorry this is happening to you, let alone three weeks before your wedding! I hope you get it resolved asap. this is definetely one of my biggest fears! keep us updated. good luck sweetie!

Sorry this happened to you.

Def. get a police report and put a freeze on your SS#. I had to do this and it was the best thing. You have to verify every use of your number.

Thank you Gals! Everything is under control now. I called the credit agencies and I called the police. Officer took report. This sucks. We do have a shredder. Someone might have stolen from our mailbox maybe? I live in an apt. complex and we have new mailboxes. But, before anyone could of easily stolen our mail. Who knows. Thanks for your support.

I can't believe someone at the hospital didn't check a drivers license to the name of the person being admitted. That's insane. Or if they did, that they can't spot of a fake driver's licencse. They need one of those machines the bar's have.

WOW, I am so sorry to hear that. Well that just happened to my FH.
He wanted to get a second job and they did a background check on him
and it comes back saying he was in jail for 8 years and has 2 felony
counts for sales of a controlled substance. It said he just came out of jail.
Thank god he has proof because he has been in the Marines for 6 years
and has all the papers and he was in Iraq for 8months, he just got back
in Oct. there's no way he was in prison. Well he still cant clear it up because
he now has to go to the courts to get some papers and worst of all,
he didn't get the job which he really needed. Don't you feel like
just beating the crap out of the person who did this to you
