Followup wedding band issue. (updated) Just came back and I'm fuming... They actually tried to rip me off!
I am going to tri county tonight to have them take out a diamond on my wedding band because it looks too wide. I told them that as soon as I received it but the lady told me to take it home and see how it feels. She said that if I'm still unhappy with it, to bring it in and they'll figure something out. Now I'm wondering if they are going to charge me extra. I mean, I don't think I should pay since they should of told me that seven diamonds will look weird on my 3.5 size finger. What should I say tonight? Just came back from tri county and they said that they will have to charge me $500 dollars more to make it into a new band because this ring is now 'scrap' He said that he'll have to charge me for the platinum because he will not be able to sell a 3.5 size ring. I refused to pay extra. I was there for over a half an hour to the point where I was hysterically crying in front of everyone and he doesn't flinch saying that this is the band that I wanted so I should of thought of that beforehand. After going back and forth he had the balls to say that he'll only charge me $200 and keep the two diamonds (going from a 2 carat, 7 stones to only 5 stones) What the F#@k? I have to pay $200 more and get less diamonds. I don't know what to do. FI is already pissed off that I needed to change it.

Do they do exchanges or returns? If so I would tell them that you're REALLY unhappy with the extra diamond in there and that you told the salesperson this when you bought the ring and that she told you to 'Try it out' but you're not satisfied. Be honest with them! I'm sure they'll work with you. Good luck!

im sure they will work it out for you otherwise tell them that you want to return it. they should have given you an honest professional opnion when you bought it and told you that with your finger size that it wouldnt work. i wouldnt pay for it to be fixed and i would make sure they give you the diamond

There are plenty of reputable dealers there. I was fully satisified with my purcashes there, and I've made quite a few. Unfortunately there are a-holes in every place you buy stuff from, retail stores included.
Did you buy it on a credit card by any chance? If so, I would threaten to go to them with the issue. Read any paper work they gave you also when you bought it. In the future, always get stuff in writing. They sound like a bunch of morons at that vendor.

My jeweler isnt retail, anyway, I have read on here and I had a friend who had a bad experience(s) there. Sorry but I have heard it too many times. Not meant to offend anyone (sorry)

I don't even want a refund...I love my ring it's just a little wide for my fingers and it looks off. I just wanted him to make it into like a six stone ring instead of seven. I mean, I'm sure they melt the platinum and reuse it, right? I can't believe he tried to save me three hundred dollars and keep my two stones which I'm sure are worth more than $150 each if my ring was $2800 for 2 carats. I'll keep the ring the way it is before I shell out anymore money. He made it sound that it was used so he was trying to make another profit off the same diamonds that I just bought from him. Unf#@king believable!

i would go to another jewler to find out how much it would be to change it.. i wouldnt give this jeweler another penny...
they never should have sold the ring if it wasnt going to look right..

Personally i think you are absolutely right. They can definately make money out of the platinum taken from you band..They are full of S*%#. But i do see them charging you 200 to make the changes. Altering your band isn't easy. If it was a chanel band well then you could just take the diamonds out and put them in another but yours is different. Did you ever just consider. Taking the diamonds our of the band and start with a new band completely. So you don't start warping your band? If i were you i would bring your band to another jeweler (i like the commack diamond exchange) pick a band that you like, exchange yours for a smaller one (that fits the amount of diamond you like), and have them put the amount of diamonds you want in the band you want. They can melt down the platinum and re-sell it OR put the money towards the band you want. Lets face it the band itself isn't where your money is going..It is the diamonds! DO NOT GIVE A DIAMOND to this idiot con artist.

So, he'll take your diamonds AND additional money, just to fix it??? Ridiculous. I am sure you can find a reputable 'freelance' jeweler somewhere.
I use one all of the time. I met him when I used to work for the Piercing Pagoda. He did all of the repairs and sizings for us. Some of the 'retail' stores around here actually use him to do their ring sizings and repairs too. I'd give you his name, but I am from central New Jersey, so the traveling probably wouldn't be worth it for you.
But, if you go to your local Piercing Pagoda, they may be able to give you a recommendation for someone reputable. After I stopped working there, the company was bought by Zales so they may not use freelance jewelers anymore. But, it's worth a shot...Best of Luck!!!!!
