Re: Food Processor
Blenders will crush and puree things.
Food processors can slice, grate, crush, and puree. I love using the plastic blade for making shortbread because it cuts the butter in perfectly.

Yea...I'm pretty new to the whole cooking thing. If I'm baking, it would probably be from a box.
But does a food processor also act as a blender? Is it just a fancy blender? Should I get one INSTEAD of a blender?
I'm hyper on coffee.

No!!! Definitely get the food processor for cooking.
But instead of a regular blender, consider an immersion blender. Works the same for blending drinks, and I think you'll get more use out of it cause it's awesome (way easier) to make soups with than a traditional blender.
Further, I'd get the immersion blender for cooking AND a margarita blender for shaved ice and cocktails

The margarita machines?? I have this one which I love...it's the best crushed ice IMO.....I make frapps in it, and FH uses it several times a week for protein shakes. Of course though, I am a sucker for this one since you can make diff margarita flavors all at once, but it's totally unnecessary and the price is outrageous.

If you are talking about the one that has 2 different tops, one blender and one little food processor, dont get it!
I used to have it and it is totally underpowered as both a blender and a food processor. Plus the food processor top is really small and do you have to do a lotof batches of things.
I have an immersion blender and a food processor and couldnt be happier :)

they are definitely different although if you only could get one go with the blender. I use my food processeor to make hummus and fresh pestos. Also to chop nuts for cookies and ice cream
You can do a lot of things like blend soups in a blender, but you cant make shortbread or breadcrumbs. Think of the food processor more as a chopper instead of a blender. If you don't do much baking or cooking then you probably won't need it. To be honest I use my food processor more than my blender. I only use the blender for the once in a while frozen drink or smoothie. I make tons of pesto in summer, tapenade too. But i only have a 3 cup and it takes forever! can't wait for my 10 cup!!

Re: Food Processor
Ash- I registered for the combo one with the blender since we have neither, and we are moving to an apartment.
I do have an immersion blender and I LOOOOOOVE it, but I make a lot of soups.

Re: Food Processor
YES - you need it. My food processor is amazing.. use it for every recipe that calls for diced or minced anything. it's a lifesaver!
