If you have a fairly heavy cocktail hour, are you still supposed to do appetizers at the recetion? My caterer said no, but then will the menus look weird? I'm having a buffet and not a sit down dinner.

I was always under the assumption that for buffets, menus are not used... Simple labeling of each dish is what I've seen...
I'm not doing apps at my sit down b/c I am having a big CH too...but I am doing a sort of combined app/salad thing. Maybe thats an option? If you need info, FM me and I'll send you some samples of what I am thinking!

Oridinarily for buffets, appetizers are not done. The dishes are simply labeled. And if you are having a heavy CH, then I would think appetizers wouldn't really be so necesary either and you can combine courses....

I think I'm going to put in my invites not to eat for 3 days prior because there is just so much food!

Re: Food Question... Need Help
We are doing a cocktail reception and having stations in the room. We probably won't do menus, but you never know. We are going to do a plated salad for when you get into the RH so people have something to nosh on while everyone gets introduced and the speeches are given (like an appetizer). Our CH is going to be limited though (passed hor deurves, cold display, raw bar) and then inside we are having a carving station, pasta station, seafood station, etc. I believe it's 5 stations altogether with three dishes/meats at each. The carving station will also have potatoes and a veggie (i.e., creamed spinach) so you can create a full meal. The best is that the stations are mirrored on each side, so you don't have to walk across the dance floor with a full plate of food. I'm so excited Good luck!!

I'm going to tell them to skip the appetizer. The wedding is at 6, I don't want dinner served at 9. People will not suffer greatly in the absence of Lemon Ice w/seasonal berries, especially after 3 stations, 6 chafing dishes, cold platters, and 8 passed hors d'oeuvres.
