food tastings / reception halls
i just got engaged and i have been looking at different places and most of them are not willing to give food tastings...and if they do some want to charge you or eat in their restaurant..is it the same though? For those brides who have found a hall did you run into this problem? HELP!!!

yes, we ran into that too. At first I didn't like the idea because I thought they were trying to hide something. When I asked about this the answer made sense. The hall might be able to make the food for your tasting taste wonderfull because they are making it for only a few people (not for over100 like on your day) and they are trying to impress you. But what counts is the reputation of the hall. Be careful about trying at the restaurant, the chef may not be the one who does the catering and then you still don't know how it will be on your day. Who were you thinking of using. The brides on this sight might have some great info to share. They know where the good food is!! Check info from the brides that have gotten married, they post how everything was on this sight!

One of the banquet mgrs at The Watermill (Scott Family place)flat out told me that they 'are one of the most reputable places on LI, we don't do food tasting' and that other halls say they will give you a food tasting just to get a deposit from you. I don't know about other halls, it definitely sounds snobby to me that he said, that, so before we gave our deposit I came to this board and other places and found out that the Watermill is excellent. After all the good things I've heard, if I'm going to trust any of my vendors to take my wedding in their hands, it's the Watermill. Good luck!

Lands End does a nice tasting...
Lands End held a very nice event for my friend`s tasting, but it was not at booking...it was a couple of months before the wedding, to get familiar with the menu and make selections. It was very nice and they got to bring parents, etc.

This tasting was just to plan menu...
At Lands End, she went to the tasting just for the purpose of menu planning and it was very close to her wedding date.

food tastings...I just came back from one!
I just came back from a food tasting! I was told we had to book before the tasting, but if we did not like the food we would get our money back with no problem. The food was great! North Ritz Club

We are having the reception at The Meadow Club in Port Jefferson. www.themeadowclub.com and what they did for us was hold the date, we came in for a tasting WHILE there was an affair going on, and then we booked. This way, we got to taste the food as it would be prepared for our event and we didn't have to worry about them preparing food especially for us. It was the ideal situation. Good luck.

food tastings...I just came back from one!
I had my food tasting at the North Ritz Club this afternoon. The food was delicious!!!!! We were told we could not have the food tasting before we book, but, if we were unhappy with the food our deposit will be given back to us. I went with my parents and my fiance's mother we were very happy with the food.
