For all your gym go'ers

For all your gym go'ers

I am joining the gym today!! I am excited and nervous at the same time... Here is the thing. I went to my Dr because I have constant knee pain. It really s ucks. Well there is basically nothing I can do but strengthen my muscles around it. I could go to PT but it's wayyy more money (co-pays) than joining a gym on my own. i majored in Kinesilogy so am not totally lost. I really just want to know what has worked for you?

The doctor gave me some advice. Basically no impact kind of exercises... basically no running, kick boxing, nothing that will cause stress to my knee. Stationary bike, eliptical, swimming... I'm all good

Sooo what is your work out routines? I wanna start a real program and want some input. So all you fit little hot mama's out there. What do you do?

TIA!

I do kickboxing, which looks like you can't do. I love to take classes because it's a lot more fun. But when I can't get to my gym, I go to the gym in my condo and do the elliptical machine. When it's warm outside, I go running and bike riding.

Yay Shauna!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Too bad you didn't live closer, we could go together

I would definitely stick with the elliptical and the bike then if that's ok for your knee. Also, strength training you could probably do, but with very light weight on the leg exercises.

I know I wish!!! I am going to join Planet Fitness bc it is only $20 a month and you can bring a guest for free anytime.. so Matt and I are going to 'split' it and go together.

I have a bad knee, I had surgery on it twice and it still isn't great. I do the elliptical, I've done the bike too but when you play around with the resistance sometimes it bothers my knee. Of course that's what gives you a great workout. I would definitely agree with the elliptical and swimming.

I live a little further west... like 20 minutes from Riverhead, but that is the closest Plant Fitness.... actually it's one of the closest gyms all together. FH is from Hampton Bays so at this gym we can meet in the middle when he is staying at his house.

well thats cool. PF it cool. why not start with a personal trainer for 1 session and see what the recommend

ORRR before you sign up, ask them to recommend specific excercises for you (cuz if you cant workout there, why would you join, ya kno)..try to get something for your $

Re: For all your gym go'ers

well I am going to go to my PT once and get the 'at home' kinda exercises and see what he reccomends. When I used to go to PT years ago after surgery it was basically like a gym too... I used the sitting bike thing... lots of resistance bands, the big yoga ball.. and some machines. So I know PF has them I have been there before.

Thanks for the advice though!

What about Pilates? There are a few women in my class who have knee problems and I've heard them say that they're so glad that there's a low-impact class that they can take.
