For anyone traveling

Re: For anyone traveling

I hate to say it - but good. Maybe people will take security on planes more seriously. I know I feel safer if they search everything - I know I won't be a problem so go ahead and search my stuff - maybe it will help deter those who might be a problem.
I happy to spend the extra time with sec. if it is safer. The best security I found was about 10 or 11 years ago in Amsterdam (they may have changed things in the past years) but they searched each and every person, dog sniffed you and your bags, and I know it took forever but I felt safer.

I totally agree with Christine.

FH is in CA (well on his way home right now) and I called him last night and told him to get to the airport extra early today (b/c of Bush's speech yesterday), because he still thinks he can get to the airport an hour early and be ok.

I think its great that the airports are finally getting serious about security...but i think some of the measures are just ridiculous. Like I cant carry have a disposable razor? How are people supposed to shave their legs on vacation? And the concept that you can't racially profile passenger is so stupid - how many 80 year old grandmas are terrorist threats?

Ok, sorry, I just had to vent!

Edited to add: Chip - this is not directed at your FH, Im glad there are committed security personnel on the job. I just think some of the rules are silly and I know he has no control over them

I don't mind waiting longer and having my bags searched. I actually feel a little safer that they are checking more carefully now.

I think it's great that there's 0 tolerance. I think they need to be equally strict for everyone, even though it seems riduculous to search an 80 y.o. grandmother. I feel safe knowing that they are being extremely cautious.

When I was coming back from India in Dec. 2001, after my mother's funeral, I had her entire sterling silver flatware set of 18 place settings in my carry on. They wouldn't let me take it b/c of the butter knives!! It's worth a few thousand $$, so I didn't know what to do. But, they made me pack it in the suitcase that I checked in. Thank God, no one stole it.
