For brides getting married

For brides getting married at RH, what kind of ceremony are you doing? Are you using unity candles or sand for ceremony. I have not thought 2 much about this and think I need to figure out what I am doing, so maybe we can give each other Ideas.

I just set up my ceremony yesterday with Rev Deb. We're doing a sand ceremony and we're also including the hand ceremony. It sounds so beautiful, so I'm really excited about the ceremony!

I am def. doing the unity candle thingy, prob. not the sand ceremony. I liked the hand ceremony, but doubt we'll do it. I am using Rev. Deb too

Are you getting married outside? We are so we figured that the sand ceremony would be better. I would hate for the candles to blow out in the middle.

I see what your saying since I am getting married outside also I was thinking about doing the sand ceremony also, but I think my parents will want something more traditional and something more they would do in church.

I haven't discussed it with my officiant but I know that I want to do a unity candle.

My ceremony will be outside at the hall so we aren't doing a candle ceremony. I wanted something different and non-traditional (for my family at least) so we are doing a handfasting ceremony and cakes and ale.

we're doing the sand. our ceremony is more spiritual than anything--and didn't want to go with the unity candle since i kind of associate that more with a religious ceremony

these are the words that will be said as we do it:

“Melissa and Peter-you have committed here today to share the rest of your lives with each other. This beautiful union is symbolized through the combining of these two individual containers of sand. The first container represents you Peter, and all that you are, and all that you will ever be, and the next represents you Melissa, and  all that you are and all that you will ever be. Each one holds its own unique beauty, strength, and character. They can stand on their own and be whole, without need of anything else. However when these two are blended together- they create an entirely new and extraordinarily more intricate entity. Each grain of sand brings to the mixture a lasting beauty that forever enriches the combination. Please pour the sand into this vessel to symbolize the union of the C***** and B***** family spirits. Just as these grains of sand can never be separated and poured again into the individual containers, so will your marriage be a molding of these two individual personalities, bonded together forming one heart, one love, and one family. The life that each of you experienced now, individually, will hereafter be inseparably united, for the two shall become one!”

We're actually doing the wine ceremony. I'm not to familiar with the details yet but it seemed to suit us better than the sand or unity candle.

Isn't that a jewish thing? That's going to be a part of our ceremony since it's traditionally done in jewish weddings. Is it that similar to the sand ceremony? I would hate to do the same thing twice.

we're doing neither... I dunno why, but when it came to the wedding ceremony, FH and I (2 of the most non-religious catholics you could ever meet) all of the sudden became staunch traditionalists...

We will be at the church, full mass, and the ceremony will include only the old-school catholic traditions..... even though our church frequently does the unity candle ceremonies these days...

I guess it's because this is what we remember from our youth, and it's been the same throughout the generations...

We are having an outdoor ceremony & FH's sister got ordained on-line to do it...we want something quick, not religious, but referring to God, kind of thing..i bought stuff to do the sand cermenony at Michaels' for like $1 per glass container (candles would blow out outside)...we told his sister she can write some kind of welcome speech...but keep it short...then we will each read our own vows, then she will do the whole 'will you take her to be your wife' thing...make it official and then it's party time!

We are having a unity candle. I was going to do the sand but my sister bought me the candle as a present so how can I not use it. I would feel terrible after she tried helping.

We are doing the hands ceremony and a unity candle. oh yeah the breaking of the glass. We tried to incorporate diff religions to make the moms happy. Luckily a lot of people think the unity candle is Christian so I am getting away with using that as a Christian aspect . I did online research and Fh and picked out wording we liked. Then we met with Rev. Deb and she is putting the whole thing together for us. I think the ceremony is the thing I put the most time and thought into. Good luck and talk to your officiant. He/she should be of great help.
