I've decided I want to walk down the aisle to Ave Maria and have been getting a lot of negative feedback from family and friends.
What's the big deal? Anybody else walking down to the same song? Anybody else having a similar problem?
TIA

I won't be walking down to Ave Maria, but I think it's a great choice.
I don't know why people would criticize you over it....

Re: For Catholic Brides........
I came into the traditional bridal chorus, and used Ave Maria when bringing up the gifts. I remember a few years ago my friend used Ave Maria for her entrance and the church gave her a hard time, but I can't for the life of me remember why.
I think it's a beautiful song and you should have it wherever you want!

I won't be walking down to Ave Maria. I think I'm walking down to Canon in D.
Maybe if people really give you a hard time you can use it when you offer flowers to the Virgin Mary.

I walked down to the traditional bridal chorus. Ave Maria seems like a fine choice, though.

Re: For Catholic Brides........
Ave Maria will be sung before the mothers are seated. The BP is walking down to Canon in D and I'm walking down to Trumpet Voluntary.
ETA - Ave Maria is beautiful and it's YOUR day. YOU walk down to whatever you want!

I'll be walking down to either the bridal march or trumpet tune. We're having the Ave Maria during the presentation of the gifts. It's so beautiful! I'm not sure why you'd get a hard time for wanting to walk down to it... how about you ask your church?

Re: For Catholic Brides........
i am not sure here but i *think* that the Ave Maria may be inappropriate bc the procession is about the bride really and it is kind of like singing to the bride. . . when the song is about the Blessed Mother.
(I am not saying that i think that but maybe that is why people do not think it is appropriate)
I am having it sung when we present the flowers.

I was just going to post this same thing--
I called my mom to ask her about the song & she said the same.

I think that's probably the reason, too. They may think you are implying you are like the Blessed Mother. It's a fine line to walk. You should do as you please in the end, but you should probably speak with your priest before making the final decision.
I am looking at walking down to one of Handel's corronation marches, which are unique and different from the typical wedding march. I haven't decided yet though. We will have Ave Maria sung either at the presentation of the gifts or after communion.

Yes! Ave Maria is usually sung during the presentation of the gifts. I get that, but I just love the song so much and think it's so beautiful. I've already spoken with the church and they're okay with me using it, it's just friends and family giving me grief. Oh well. We shall see!
Thank you all for your input.

I want Canon in D too, but my mom made a similar comment. I'm thinking of having my brides walk into Jesus, Man of Desiring Dream...I love that song, too.
