For Catholic Brides........

Original post by lunabride

What song are you walking down the aisle to?

I've decided I want to walk down the aisle to Ave Maria and have been getting a lot of negative feedback from family and friends.

What's the big deal? Anybody else walking down to the same song? Anybody else having a similar problem?

TIA

i am also walking in to Canon in D.

If you want to walk in to Ave Maria then walk in to it....who cares, do it....its YOUR wedding!!!

exactly! the church can be rigid and fam and friends always have their opinions

just do what you want and what you feel is right--

we are having an instrumental version of a beatles' song during our unity candle! lol i don't care- i like what i like and if the church has a prob with it then they are not being 'good catholics'- we should accept everyone for who they are and respect their feelings... and as for family and friends- well, ya know- in one ear and out the other!

i wanted to use canon in D but my mom thinks its like a disgrace not to use the bridal march and thats liekthe one thing she aksed me to do so i guess ill give in on that one

I want Canon in D too, but my mom made a similar comment. I'm thinking of having my brides walk into Jesus, Man of Desiring Dream...I love that song, too.

My MOH and I are walking down the aisle to Bach's 'Air on a G String'. After the ceremony, my FH and I are walking back from the altar to Bach's 'Jesu, Man of Desiring'.

My BMs are walking down to Jesu, Joy of Man's Desiring....NOT Pachebel's Canon!

I'm walking down to the traditional bridal march.

We're walking back up (after it's over) to Ode to Joy - NOT the traditional recessional.

IMO, if your church allows Ave Maria, and you want it, GO FOR IT. Our church doesn't allow Ave Maria as a processional song....only as offertory & candlelighting.

I'm using Ave Maria for the unity candle and presentation of flowers.

It's a beautiful song- do what you WANT!

My BIL is playing some songs for me- one of them being our unity candle song, which is not from the church, but has been a favorite of mine since I first heard it. I actually told FH is college that this song will be played at some point during our wedding.

Ave Maria is a gorgeous song- FH's grandmother who passed away in June loved that song- so we are going to have it played at some point during our mass as well.

ETA: and my cousin, who is a beautiful singer, will be singing it as well.

i am not sure here but i *think* that the Ave Maria may be inappropriate bc the procession is about the bride really and it is kind of like singing to the bride. . . when the song is about the Blessed Mother.

(I am not saying that i think that but maybe that is why people do not think it is appropriate)

I am having it sung when we present the flowers.

This is the reason.
