For Dog Owners

For Dog Owners

This is not wedding related. Just hoping to get some feedback. My little shih-tzu has been scratching herself like crazy and losing a lot of hair. Anyone know what could be wrong with her? She does not have fleas. I'm bringing her to the vet today, but I wanted to see if anyone knows some home remedies that may help. Thanks!

She may have allergies. Ever since my dog got fleas last fall, he has had allergies because of those little buggers. He has allergies in his ears. The vet gave us rx for it and it def. helps.

Sounds like an adrenal gland problem. Time to go to the vet!

My dog has skin allergies that act up around this time of year- the change of weather makes him shed, and he gets itchy. I use the oatmeal bath as well, seems to work well.

yup, sounds like allergies. a good shampoo can help.
although, have you changed your cleaning supplies lately? or started using a new rug deodarizer or anything like that? one time that happened to us and it was because i was using this powdery stuff on the carpet before i vacuumed. stopped using it and no more scratchies!
hope your baby feels better soon!

get her to the vet. sounds like a skin allergy. my spaniel has one too - I got a special shampoo and an antibiotic from the vet - he scratched so hard he gave himself a skin infection!!!

July, I also have a shih-tzu (dont you love them!), and she does the same thing, especially in the spring and summer. I have allergy pills for her. The vet said that because they are so low to the ground, they pick up everything. Take him/her to the vet, and see if they can give you some allergy medicine.

Maybe we should have a GTG for all shih-tzu owners!
