So I'm not sure if there's anyone out there who hasn't yet, but I went for the first time today and I wish I was a little better prepared...so I figured I'd pass along all the knowledge I learned in one day hehe
1) Wear a strapless bra I actually thought ahead and did this. Depending on the place, they will offer you a bra, but the idea of wearing a bra that many others have worn is not so fun. Esp considering that trying on a bunch of dresses can make a girl sweat a little! Sometimes the place won't have a bra for you so this is a definite must!
2) Bring heels you are comfortable wearing The lady just grabbed heels in my size and they were really painful...it definitely made me feel a need to rush a little so that I could take them off!
3) Bring water!! It doesn't seem like it but trying on a bunch of dresses really takes a lot of you! I was lightheaded by the end of it and I only tried on 9 dresses.
4) Eat beforehand Again, it definitely takes a lot out of you!!
5) Don't bring a crowd of people I didn't actually do this...only brought my Mom. But between her and the attendant that was more than enough opinions for me! Honestly even those opinions were making me second guess my first instincts.
That's all I can think of for right now...if this helps even one person I'll feel great! Feel free to add more suggestions!

There is one dress that keeps jumping out in my mind, but I'm not sold on it yet. I am going to an actual salon tomorrow (today I went to David's Bridal) so I'm hoping the atmosphere will lend itself to finding something I am really solid on.

Re: For girls who haven't gone dress shopping yet
I went for the first time the other day! And my mom and I banged out two salons in one day... didn't sounds like a lot but it WAS! We took four hours in the first one! All great advice. I also brought a notepad and paper to write down and describe them. They all started to melt together eventually... I hear that everyone finds 'the one' but i think i am too critical for that, lol. there will always be something wrong with it! plus i am VERY indecisive! *****...

Re: For girls who haven't gone dress shopping yet
I'm going to have to differ on these two:
Posted by MikesBride2B 4) Eat beforehand Again, it definitely takes a lot out of you!!
5) Don't bring a crowd of people I didn't actually do this...only brought my Mom. But between her and the attendant that was more than enough opinions for me! Honestly even those opinions were making me second guess my first instincts.
4)- I feel like eating beforehand makes me feel bloated. I want to feel glamorous in my wedding dress. I think something small is fine, but don't eat a meal...you will be able to tell when you're trying on dresses!
5)- I brought my mom, grandma, MOH, FMIL, and sister. I'm so glad I did. It was wonderful to have so many opinions. Plus, once I had found the dress it was so nice to see them all in agreement with me. I also felt it made the experience that mroe fun.

ITA! I ate a little something but I didn't want to be all bloated and feel fat! And I brought my mom, aunt, and bridesmaid, and MOH with me and I thought it was great having so many opinions and hands to grab me dresses! lol
