All the appliances in our apt are ooooold. There's actually an issue with every major appliance in the kitchen, and we haven't complained about any of it (the dishwasher's bottom rack never stays on the track, there is no light in the fridge because the place where you screwed it in is calcified). Our oven makes this weird buzzing noise that's up until now been tolerable, but at this point is getting really annoying. Our landlords are really nice and when we noticed the fan above the oven wasn't working they installed a new one.
Do you think if we call them they will replace the oven? We really don't complain ever...I mean, obviously there's a lot we could bring up but we don't because we've made a couple of dents in the wall and stuff so we felt like these things were livable and not working complaining about...but this sound is getting really effin annoying.

If the sound is unbearable, I would tell them. How old is the oven; totally 80's?

Yeah, you should definitely talk to them about it. It's not a bad idea to mention the safety issue as well.

They might. It's worth a shot. FBIL rents, and they got a new oven recently. If it's that bad, I would call and ask. We are going to call and ask for a new fridge; they do this no problem. Good luck.

Definitely let them know. Even if they're nice, it's their responsibility to maintain the apartment. They could always get an oven from a scratch & dent or a floor model from a store and save some money. You could even offer to help look for some decent deals.

Its OLD...I think 80s is not far off.
Ang, I live in a 2 family house.
I guess I need to call...I just hate calling them because they are first generation Italians and I feel bad because I always have to repeat what they say to be sure I understood.

Either way you should definitely talk to them... I'd obviously start with the stove since thats the most dangerous and it is their responsibility to get it...

i think they will understand considering you hardly ever bother them for any repairs.

i think if the appliance is not serving its main function then it should be replaced. i mean, if it can't be repaired at least.
ask nicely. hopefully they'll act nicely back!

It is still working...but the noise gets louder when I've got the oven/stove going and it makes me nervous that the whole thing is gonna blow up...but then again its an electric stove so that's probably not possible.

but the fact that is making loud noises is not a good thing. maybe at least them know that there is a problem with the stove and let them decide if its worth repairing or replacing it.

Re: ? for girls who rent
If they are cheap like mine are then no. My bathroom is from the 70s and my toilet was having problems flushing properly and was leaking underneath for a long time. I would just wipe up the water whenver I saw it but FH kept telling me to have them fix it. Well it took them over a week to fix it and my landlord spent 6 hours in my apt trying to fix it, took the whole bowl off, had power tools, it was rediculous, instead of spending like 70 dollars or even less to replace it. They finally had their family member come and fix it. There's also a ton of water damage on the bottom of the vanity due to the moisture problem in the bathroom since the fan doesn't do crap. They like to collect rent but god forbid they make upgrades.

You should definitely let them know. The people who own the property probably won't want to be surprised when you move out and they need to redo the entire house before new people can come in.
