When you first started to use it did it make your face very dry? I just started to use it and it's making my face very dry. Usally I have oily skin and for it to be very dry is so weird. Just wanted to know if this was normal and will it go away.

I have used Proactiv and everything else in the world of acne meds and NOTHING WORKS, they all make my face soooo dry even when I use mosturizer and then my dry pimples peal off, I know that EWWWWW, and then that leaves scarring. I am thinking of getting laser surgury to get rid of everything, has anyone done this??
i asked about laser surgery for the acne on my back - and it was $800 a session and you need at least 6 sessions. of course, face would be cheaper but that is still
No the derm doc told me it would be 3, 000 for my face, i was like OMG, and I dont think insurance will pay bec its cosmetic????

I have never used it....
I think I have bad skin, but everyone says I don't and my mom says I don't need to see a dermontologist for acne. I don't have acne I know that, but I always feel self consious about my face and I want it to clear up more- especially those clogged pores on my chin and nose.
So..haha how can you get Proactive without a Doctors prescription? do they sell it anywhere else beside off the TV as well haha...
you can order it online or even at the mall. they have it at roosevelt field mall.

Re: for girls who use proactive
HAVE YOU ever thought of getting the shot, the one they inject in your face...Its vitamin B or E i forgot lol but its supposed to be great
NOOOO, I have never heard of that. Its just Vit B and E getting injected in the face???? I dont know about needles in my face, If I take these vitamins oraly, would that help also??
its not the same as the shot...the shot makes it go away completely...my friend did it a long time ago and never broke out after...Im also keep this as an option in case i break out before the wedding bc it gets rid of it immediately...Its better and cheaper than laser thats why i suggested it...just close your eyes lol
Are you serious that I wont break out at all after this shot, I need it NOW, my face is horrendous, lol. Can I go to any derm.? Would you know how much it is? Thanks

JulyBride, I think that is cosmetic and insurance wont pay, but 300 is not bad considering I almost had the laser surgury which was 3000. Edit: At this point I am desperate, my face has broken out so bad, it may be my diet change bec I havent ate meat in 50 days, my makeup, which I stopped wearing for a while during the weekdays, etc etc

You can always try to have the insurance cover it. It dosen't hurt. But still $300 aint bad at all.

I'm actually on proactiv right now. My face got dry too but I realized I was using too much. You are supposed to use a dime size for the cleanser and toner. For the lotion you use a pea size. Once I started doing this, my face didn't get dry

Theres a chance your insurance might cover it...It is a treatment for acne so if your derm suggests it as a treatment it should be covered...Hmmm call up and find out i guess.

hmmm it might not be cosmetic...When i used to go to the dermatologists and whatever they did it was all covered including anything they prescribed...The shot is a popular treatment of acne so its a possibility .
I know someone who used to get shots in the face all the time and they were covered, just not sure if it was the same type of shot

Re: for girls who use proactive
Unfortunately, I have been battling acne since I've reached my mid 20s, and not all treatments are covered by insurance. However my dermatologist has called my insurance company on my behalf to state that my medication was in fact medically necessary, so if you are having issues with your insurance company keep that in mind. I am surprised, however that no dermatologist has ever mentioned these vitamin shots to me. I have gotten shots of cortisone, which are helpful in getting rid of painful cystic like bumps much much more quickly. One thing my dermotologist did suggest to me as a way of calming my skin is to alternate my cleanser, which does a great job of keeping my acne under control but leaves me dry and irritated, with just plain old quaker oats as an exfoliator. Sounds silly, but if any of you had the chickenpox when you were little, you know those oatmeal baths made your skin feel a lot better! If anyone has questions about prescriptions, feel free to FM me, I've been through a lot of them!
