for girls who's fathers passed away...

Are you doing a 'father-daughter' dance? If so, with who?

My grandfather is walking me down the isle but I do not think that he is really up for a dance (he's 86). I don't really want to dance with my brother.

Who is not doing the dance? If you are, with who?

My friend danced with her mom at her wedding because her dad passed away- it was really nice and her mom kept saying how touched she was.. just a thought

Re: for girls who's fathers passed away...

Hi,

My father passed away in April so emotions are still running high. He passed away before FH and I decided to get married but hopefully Dad knows and he's happy for us.

I have asked my very good friend to give me away. (Mom is not happy with the idea; she thinks it should be family, but I have always considered him my brother and he's honored by my request.) I plan on dancing with my friend at the reception as well when it comes time for the father/daughter dance. What I'm thinking of doing to keep it a little light-hearted is to use a song by one of my Dad's favorite artists, such as Bobby Darin. That way it's a tribute to him as well.

While driving to work the other day, 'Dance with my Father' came on and I can tell you I bawled like a baby, realizing Dad's not going to be there. Was thinking of using this song to dance with my friend in memory of Dad but decided it would be too emotional for everyone.

I am dancing with my brother.

What about your uncles or someone that is really close to your Dad or to your family?

hi girls ... my dad passed away almost 4 years ago ...

I have had some time to think about what I want to do to remember him on my wedding day and i've come up with this ..

mama is walking me down the aisle
I will dance with my mom instead of my dad
Immediately after my 'mother daughter dance' I am having a photo montage for my dad ... pics of him, their wedding, him with my mom, siblings and ME

Our DJ provides the plasma TVs for the montage and I will do a compliation of songs with the help of the DJ

my dad passed away on 7-11-06, exactly 4 months to the day before my wedding! . My mom walked me down and her & I danced at the reception to 'Dance with my father' by Luther Vandross...we thought about not doing this song because it was going to be so sad but then we figured any song would have been sad because it was supposed to be me & him, not me & my mom and everyone knew that. There was not a dry eye in the house, but it was also the perfect song for us to dance to.

my dad passed in 2005, and my wedding is in 2008.. as i get closer and closer to the day and start picturing myself coming down the aisle, ocming into the rh. etc.. i always cry.. cause i realize that each of those situations is one where he won't be at..

in my mind i can see myself bawling when the pastor asks who gives me away.. and my dad isn't there to answer..

at my mom's request my grandfather is going to walk me down the aisle.. i think.. not sure yet.. and as for my father/daughter dance.. i dunno.. i like the song Daddy by Beyonce.. i will prob use that..just the chorus part..

my dad passed in april of '05. I am having my mother and uncle walk with me. Instead of a 'father daughter dance' i am asking my dj to dedicate 'wind beneth my wings' by bette middler to my dad, and invite everyone up to dance with me for him.

I'm dancing with my step father. My father passed when I was 6 and my stepfather's been in my life since I'm 10 so I very much consider him my father.
If I didn't have him in my life though, I would dance with my brother or grandfather.

I just want to say that I am so sorry to all of you who have lost your fathers - my dad is my best friend and I don't know what I'd do if something happened to him. I admire all of your courage so much. I was almost in tears just reading this post!

Re: for girls who's fathers passed away...

My father passed away in April very suddenly. He was so happy I was getting married and so excited for the whole event. I can't imagine it without him but I am going to go on for him.

I plan to have my mom walk me down the aisle. I'm not extremely close to my brother so I think this would be more appropriate. I'm having a memorial candle and part of the ceremony dedicated to him. I am wrapping my bouquet in his hankerchief and having a picture of him tied to my bouqet.

I plan on moving the memorial candle to a small table with some pictures of him near our table and having it burn all night so he's there with us.

I don't want to dance with anyone but him. I wanted that moment more than anything.
I am honestly not sure what we'll do regarding this.....

My favors are in honor of him (diabetes and heart associations)...

Good luck girls. I am so sorry for all of our loses.

My dad passed in june 05, I got married 2 years later. My mom walked me down the aisle, but I didn't dance with anybody. The way I look at it, nobody can replace him, so why try. My husband danced with his mom and that was it.
I have two brothers and they were very understanding.

I just wanted to say how sorry I am to all of you who have lost your fathers. I too lost my dad in April 2006 and I tear up every time I think of my wedding day without him. It will be bitter-sweet because I will be marrying my soul-mate, but my dad will not be there to witness it.

I will be having my mom walk me down the aisle (I always said that they would both walk me down the aisle); I know that my dad will be there, watching down on me.

Both of my parents have passed away and I'm not close to my brother. I would've liked for my grandmother to have walked me down the aisle, but she's not particularly steady on her feet so I wasn't sure she could handle it. I was going to walk down myself but I chickened out, so I had my best friend walk me down and skipped the dance entirely. DH danced with his mom but I really didn't want to have a dance just to have a dance.
