For Girls withDJ's

For Girls withDJ's

I got into a little 'tif' with my Mom on the way home tonight from the reception hall..

I do not want the give away stuff like the glasses, hats, beads and stuff.. and she swears that this makes the party.. I personally think that my friends are dancers.. they don't need that stuff if the music is great..

Do you guys think it is gets a party to a different level as she said? Just looking for opinions..

Thanks..

FH and I did not want that stuff either. He thinks it makes the weedding loose some elegance, I agree. I think if the DJ is doing a great job then he will get everyone. I don't think that glasses and all that is worth the money considering people may just end up throwinf it away anyway.

I think it all depends on the person and what they want... I don't want the giveaways but my FI does.. so I don't know what we will wind up doing but IMO, if you both don't want them.. do what YOU want and don't have them.

Re: For Girls withDJ's

thats optional we are doing it at John Anthonys because we always thought it was fun and funny to see people in the hats (you canchoose what to give away too - OR azsk your DJ if you can buy the give aways and have them distribute it to the crowd..) we are doing the glow necklaces, Gangster hats and I forgot what else????

JMO but i think People love getting any kind of free giveaways and they look fun in the videos and pics

Good luck

Those things are fun, but they are for less 'adult' affairs like Sweet 16's and Bar/Bas Mitzvah's. Or they are for holiday type of parties, like New Year's Eve. They cheapen a wedding. Tell your mom she is wrong on this one. Show her this site if you have to. Good luck.

It's so funny because when we went to our first bridal expo a while back, a DJ said to FH and I that we didn't 'look like the giveaway types'. Ever since then, FH is dead set against them! I personally don't think they make or break the party by any means. Do what YOU want, not what mom thinks will be fun. Just keep in mind that she may know what the family likes or is into and if that's a consideration for you, give it some thought. As for us, I think we'll do just fine without the giveaways.

Thanks girls.. since I got engaged.. which is less than a month ago, my mom has turned into a wedding machine. That is ALL we talk about now. I love her to death and I can't wait to share my day with her.. but she swears and believes she is the Emily Post of weddings..

I wish I could show her the replies, but it would hurt her feelings. I just wanted to vent to you girls to get your opinion. All this wedding stuff is making my head spin. Some days eloping sounds so nice.

to be honest i think its way too bar mitzvah and super cheesy. this is my opinion, so no offense to anyone who is a fan of giveaways.

I think it brings the wedding down a level! I don't see how these giveaways add to the fun, I agree that they are cheesy.

I think it's tacky. It definitely takes elegance away.

i personally dont care either way, fh feels that its not wedding type stuff...we're not having them..

we are only having it, (and on a limited amount), because of the kids. I dont think a wedding has to have it. this is only a recent thing in the past few years.

Re: For Girls withDJ's

We had it at our wedding and it didn't make the wedding tacky or sweet sixteenish. It was included in our DJ package and I forgot about it until the wedding day.

Our guests seemed to enjoy them. My sister was joking that other guests kept coming up to her for her streamers or whatever and she ended up with none. From what she said the DJ didnt force things on people, I saw him on the video just walking around with them and our guests were taking them.

we are not crazy about it, but it comes with out package and we are doing it for the kids . . .

I agree with you, I personally dont like the hand outs. Becareful though, we told our DJ when we first met with them that I really did not like them and that I didnt want ANY. At my wedding as I am walking around to the tables, I look on the dance floor and see everyone with ugly gold hats on and they were holding blow up saxaphones! I was beyond angry.....

I wasn't sure on this either! Initially I was certain - NO WAY - and I told my DJ as well, but now I'm starting to think maybe I should, because people do sometimes get into the giveaways....I'm still not sure what I'm going to do

Well, we are. We are buying them and our DJ will give them away. We are having my cousin's children at the wedding. They live for that stuff. We are not over-doing it. At least, I hope we are not.

Edited to say: And I am cheesy. I am the one with pink flamingos on the front lawn.

it's a toss up for us...I kinda think they are fun but at the same time somewhat cheesy...who knows what we will do...but either way I don't feel it will make or break your wedding regardless!

Re: For Girls withDJ's

I had this same argument with my mother!!! She said the same exact thing, and me and DH just didn't want the giveaways. We knew we would have a dancing crowd, and they didn't need anything to motivate them. The night of the wedding we didn't have any giveaways. Our dancefloor was packed all night. Our dj came up to me and told me we had a crazy crowd. So go with what you want, it is your wedding. And I know where you are coming from, my mom said the same exact stuff your mom did. Stick to your guns!
