We had them at our e-party and although I DON'T want them at the wedding...the pics we have from the e-party are hysterical!! The poses people did, the amount of stuff on some people (oldies thinking they are cool). It was really funny. And it showed how much fun everyone had besides people just being on the dance floor. We are def. doing the maracas for all the spanish music that will be played but we are going back and forth on the other stuff. I don't think it is sweet 16ish or childish at all. We also had giveaways at my Dad's 50th B-day party and these old folks were going crazy pretending they were playing the instruments and stuff. I think it depends more on your guests and the type of people that they are. My family and friends are partyers anyway but it didn't hurt us by getting the giveaways at the e-party.

Re: For Girls withDJ's
I did not want them at my wedding.
I think they are cool though for other occasions.

We are not going to have the party stuff, either. We felt it was unnecessary.

Re: For Girls withDJ's
In the beginning I said NO WAY to hand outs. After talking to my DJ we said we would keep the option open. We have a very wild, fun, young crowd coming to the wedding. My FI and I thought a few late night handouts could be funny. But I am still thinking about it.

It's really about what you want. Your guests will have a good time either way. We chose to have the giveaways (not too many though) but we've been to a couple of weddings lately that didn't have them and they were fun too. If the music is good, you're dance floor will be packed no matter if Aunt Jane has 3 leis around her neck or not.

I don't really like them, but a lot of my guests do, so we are only going to have like 2 songs with giveaways.

I did not have them, and they were not missed, everyone was dancing the whole night, and i am so glad I didn't do it.

Re: For Girls withDJ's
I am having them because I like them but you dont have to, its a personal choice! I dont think its tacky or makes a wedding lose elegance, nor do I think its purly sweet sixteenish, honestly I think its just fun and a personal opinion. I have a pic from my MOH's wedding and its of me and another BM with sunglasses on that we got from teh DJ and people waving streamers in teh background, its one of my fave pictures becuase we just look like we are having such a blast. But I dont think we wouldnt have had a good time without them!
ETA: it was a FREE add on, but I would have paid for it! As I said I like it!

Re: For Girls withDJ's
Im not having them
Im dead set against it. For all that I am not from this area I have NEVER heard of this until I got here. It grates against my idea of tradition and respect. For me this is my weddnig not a free-for-all party to get drunk, let loose and boogie (although technically it is free for everyone but me and yes they'll get drunk and I hope to boogie the night away).
I don't want multicolored flowers after all the effort I've gone through to make my wedding special and set in colors. I don't want sunglasses and goofy hats, that's for New Year's Eve not my wedding!
But these are just MY reasons. I've seen people use them and have fun, but it's not for me.
I specifically told my DJ from the get go.. NO GIVEAWAYS! Right after which I said 'NO REQUESTS'

ITS DEFINATELY TACKY AND SWEET 16ISH, MY DJ DOESNT EVEN SUGGEST THAT STUFF AT ALL. SAVE YOUR MONEY AND PUT IT TOWARDS THE FAVORS..

Re: For Girls withDJ's
I didn't want them..but we answered some question at a bridal show that my DJ was showcasing. He said that we won something so I asked just for a few of those things to give the kids. I have to say though , that my DH put on one of those gangster hats that the Dj was giving out during one of the songs at the wedding..and my photographer took a picture........ It was my favorite picture because my husband looked adorable!
