For Newlyweds who used Bands (actually any entertainment)

How much dance time is there really with all the planned dances and serving the courses

I am thinking 2 - 3 hours of dance time max Is that right assuming a cocktail hour and 4 hour dinner reception

I am trying to rationalize a band quote

It was a lot. I would say 3 1/2 hours. All those 'organized' dances really don't take up that much time. And I did not want that much down time during meals. What's the deal with that anyway. I can listen to fast music and eat at the same time

Also in order to get more dance time we are combining our 1st & 2nd course. The 1st course is a appetizer--we are getting a vegetable tower & they are going to put it over a salad. We felt that otherwise there would be too much of our guests getting up & down to eat instead of dancing & enjoying themselves. This will allow our guests to enjoy the 1st 45 minutes of the reception without any food since the cocktail hour is so big and then another 45 minutes till dinner w/ a lemon sorbet served in between. Just a thought if you want more dance time!

I didnt really time it but I think live music really sets a tone for the entire evening. Even when people weren't dancing, there was always live music being played so we got a full 5 hours of music from them.

I agree with this, however you still don't need to break the bank to get a good band.
