for people with debt (not including mortgage)

for people with debt (not including mortgage)

how are you dealing with it...

right now we have a lot from the past year since DH was laid off...and we are selling a house and only putting some money down into another...so hopefully we will be able to pay most of our debt...

what is your plan...the last time I paid off our debt (before the lay off) I pledge to pay 10% of the bill...and then every month I would pay that amount...and I was out in 10 or so months...

but now that is not an option (until the house money comes in)

the only debt we have is from car and student loans. We're paying them off at a faster rate than required, but we'll be stuck with Al's student loans for awhile.

uh i hate that word debt.

I have student loans up the wazoo...credit cards that i foolishly opened up in college and maxed out in college that i'll be paying off which feels like forever.

i just pay as much as i can a month. and if its low enough that i can pay in full, i do. sometimes it feels like it will take forever but each payment is one step closer to getting rid of those debts.

for those with credit card debt, why not transfer the balances to a 0% card? That way you can pay them off faster.

I've tried to get another card, but i keep getting declined!!! i've been making my payments on time so i don't understand why they are denying me. Then again i had a debt that i paid off which DID NOT come off my credit report, was showing as delinquent. Maybe i should try again... anyone know any good ones to apply for (that will probably accept me) ?

I have thought about the 0%..but since we should be getting some cash soon...I want to wait since we are going to be applying for a martgage and I don't want there to be more credit out in my name...

then I have the fear that I won't cancel the other cards and then I'll have another card with a balance...

I have been thinking about asking my parents for a loan until we get the house money...but my mother always told me I was bad with money that I'm scared to...the loan would only be for 1 month...but I don't know if I can swallow my pride

after wedding we will do a consolidation loan. FH will only have his truck outstanding because he works for a dealership & is getting a great loan.

Also, Credit cards are only used for emergrncies & for hm (FH hates carrying cash or traveler's cheques on vacation.)

Re: for people with debt (not including mortgage)

My DH and I both had a bit a debt before we got married. We are lucky in that we are able to survive pretty comfortably on his salary alone so all of my money is going to pay off the bills and then save for a downpayment for a house. We should be done with everything in about 7 or 8 months. Debt stinks but we wanted to get everything paid off before we have children since that in itself will put us in debt for the rest of lifes lol.

To make things alittle easier we consolidated about 10 credit cards into 3 and negotiated the rate down pretty low.

I was able to get out of debt with Genus Credit Management I had major credit card debt after college...I enrolled in this plan and u have to pay a certain amount every month..They work with the credit card companies to lower the interest...The only catch is that u cant use those credit cards..But im happy to say IM DEBT FREE!!! and it was the best feeling in the world to get out of debt...Now I only pay by cash!!! And the only debt I have is my mortgage on my coop and my car payments...

All we'll have are student loans. Peter has very little left and I will consolidate mine into a 20yr loan @ a 3.5 fixed interest rate. I plan on paying it off like if it was a 10yr loan. I'm just going to double up, which is what I would've been paying if I didn't consolidate.

We did what Karen did. Took all of our credit cards and transfered the balances to 2. One has a 0% for another year and the other has 2.9% for the life of the balance. By doing that we pay very little finance charges and are able to pay the bulk of the balance down each month.

I have school loans and since the interest rates are at an all-time low, I'm going to lock them in at the interest I have now (the rates change every July). I'm also paying an extra $100 per month because they dropped my monthly payments (due to the lower interest rates) and I want to get rid of them!
