For Plus size gals ---I am so dissapointed--LONG

Original post by wowlifeisgood

Girls,

I need to vent. I went and tried on wedding gowns today for the first time and I have to say I am got so sad. First off I went to places that had plus sizes dresses and get this they didn't fit. Now I am a big girl but I know there are girls out there bigger. And I am sure alot of them are married and wore a bridal gown for it.

Anyway, I tried on maybe 8 dresses and then got discouraged b/c of the sizes. The second dress I tried on did look amazing and I thought oh my gosh this is could be the one. The gals (my entire bridal party and mom) thought the same thing BUT it didn't close and so I am don't know if you can really tell with that.

So needless to say. I feel pretty terrible about myself. I looked forward to finding my wedding dress since i was a girl. And I made sure to pump up my self esteem before going in but it just didn't seem to stay with me. The only time I felt really great was when I had that dress on.

So now I need to REALLY focus on losing weight but I don't know if I can lose all that and then try and find a wedding dress closer to the date.

Sorry so long but I just had to vent. I am sure I will feel better tomorrow and dust myself off.

I just thought it would be so great instead I felt dissapointed.

Thanks for listening.

If you have found a dress that you love, close or not it doesn't matter. There are also girls who much smaller than sample sizes and they cannot tell what looks good because the dress it too big on them. So both ways- sample sizes stinks.
You have to understand that you are loved for who you are, not the size of the bridal gown that you will wear.
I do feel that more stores need to carry larger sample sizes because it is unfair to many girls out there! I am not sure but David's Bridal may carry many more plus size gowns for you to try on- because they carry a lot of cash& carry gowns. You wouldn't have to purchase the gown there, but you could get a better idea of the style of gown that you like.
Again, you are loved- sample size or not!!!

Re: For Plus size gals ---I am so dissapointed--LONG

I was soooo scared to start trying on dresses because of my size in January (I was about a size 18 to 20). I went with my sister for her to try on her bridesmaid dress at Macy's Bridal in Manhasset(they are the best) when the salesperson convinced me to try on some. The second dress she suggested for me was the one. They had to clip the sample on me also because it did not fit and it was a size 22. But I knew it was the one so we ordered it.

The dress came in early (about two weeks ago) and I wanted to just see it to make sure it was the right dress. The salesgirl asked if I wanted to try it on and I was terrified to but I did. And guess what - it actually has to be taken in. I almost cried.

Now I haven't done anything drastic (now a size 14 to 16). What I've done is I only drink water and occasional diet soda, cut down on carbs, eat tons of salad, and go walking at least three times a week.

You won't lose a ton of weight but you will lose - it is a lifestyle change and you'll feel good (unlike you do on those crash diets). And definitely try Macy's if you like Demetrios gowns - they are great and know what works with your figure.... Good luck and FM me for anything...

Man I am so glad that I'm not the only one. I'm beginning to get in shape starting tomorrow. If you wanna go walking or something and are in the suffolk area, please let me know. I need motivation and a motivator!
Don't give up... full figured women are BEAUTIFUL and your fiance loves you no matter what size you are... be proud to be a full woman.. there's more of you to love! (that's my favorite saying..LOL)

well good luck, keep your head up and stand proud!

Dont get upset-I would go shopping if I were you, and call different bridal stores and ask them if they carry Plus sizes, but let them know the type of gown you are looking for-
1-do you want any type of sleeve
or are you ok with strapless--that makes a difference ---reason being: its tough to put a sleeve on a straples dress and many stores carry alot of strapless.
If its a tank style a sleeve can be added.
This is my 1st day on LI weddings, I work in a bridal store for 5yrs now --and I AM GETTING Married at the Watermill August 2004---2nd wedding
So if you are interested If you want to chat with me in a email, I will be happy to --I AM A PLUS SIZE
:)

Just remember you are beautiful no matter what!

I had the same experience when I went shopping for my dress. I went to Bridal Suite in Bay Shore and they had plenty of larger sized samples to try on and one of the sales girls, Mary Ellen was wonderful. Definately give them a try.

I don't know where you went to look but I went to Paradise Bridal in Patchogue and they have a nice selection of plus size dresses to try on. The dress I ordered is a plus size dress and the sample they have is a size 20. I also tried on dresses in the Commack Wedding Center and they also have a selection of plus sizes to try on. I agree, it is hard to picture a dress in your size when what you are seeing in the mirror doesn't fit. DONT LOSE HOPE!!!!

This is my fear also..... how long can I put it off so I can lose the most amount of weight!

I've looked up the dress manufacturers that have larger sizes, and saw the sizing charts on Netbride.. so I won' t have so much of a surprise when I go there and they tell me I'm 2 sizes larger... I don't even know if they make dresses that would be 2 sizes larger then me at this point! (I'm a 24-26, normal clothes, depending....)

40 pounds down on WW... a hundred or so to go!
