% for rent

% for rent

Obv. Fh and I are starting to look at apartments.

Is there a % of your gross income that you shouldn't go over when deciding how much to pay p/month for rent?

I think the guideline is no more than 25% of your gross monthly income should go to rent/mortgage.... and no more than 33% should go toward any debt payments (mortgage, rent, loans, CCs, etc.)

Try googling to be sure.

i think FH and I spend an additional $1500-ish on bills every month (including supermarket, phone/cable/internet bill, cell phone, car & insurance, and random shopping) ... obviously that number fluctuates (especially now with all this wedding spending) ...

In Manhattan, they say you should make 40x your monthly rent in a year but I've also heard 30x from others.
