For some reason I noticed recently the my dog is loosing weight,
she is a year and 4 months and when we brought her to my moms (she is staying there till we move into our house) she was able to be more active and I am wondering if that is what it is due to. Yesterday she just looked really thin and she is a lean dog to begin with (Boxer). She eats 3cups of dry food a day. Should I mix wet food with it and give her some table food too? Any suggestions? I wanted to see what all you guys had to say before I go to the vet.

I don't have any suggestions for you except NOT to feed your dog table food. It's not good for them at all.... Dry food is best....

I agree with the dry food...I've read that wet food is just dry food watered down?
sometimes when my dog is not in his usual environment he loses weight - like if we go away on vacation
my cat also lost 2 pounds when we were away for 3 weeks...I think they become a little depressed? unsure of whats going on?

Onyx lost a bit of weight when we moved to our house, now that he has a nice big backyard to run around in. I didnt notice it as much, but my mom came over and remarked on it right away. He was a bit chubby before though, so he needed to lose a few pounds We give him 2-3 cups of dry food twice a day. About once a week he gets a can of wet food mixed in w. one cup of dry, he loves that. Its like a gourmet treat for him I second not feeding him people food, or you will never get him away from the table while you are eating.

It could be the new environment. I just got my puppy and she is losing weigh then gaining and the vet told me that she is going to gain it more weight now.

Does he have any other unusual symptoms like a matted down or thinning coat or crying a lot? My cat lost a lot of weight and had those symptoms and we brought him to the vet and found out that he has an overactive thyroid. He is on medication now and back to his normal self. He even gained back his weight.

The only thing i can think of is that she is definitly more active she went from not aloud to running in an apartment b/c tenants were below us to running out side in my mothers backyard and playing with my brothers and she is very active everyday. The thing she wont eat anymore than those 3 cups of food a day. She isnt crying and her coat isnt thinning. I dont know why she would be depressed she is always playing with someone. I did change her food from puppy to adult when i brought her to my moms could that be it? I was feeding her Nutro puppy formula and now I give her Purnia lamb and rice formula. She only likes lamb and rice formula food (shes a picky dog). I dont give her table food now and I dont like to give it to her at all.

I don't know. If your dog gets any thinner, you might want to take her to the vet to make sure everything's okay.
