? for the brides already married.

How many of you have 'written off' people because they did not attend your wedding whether by no show or a declined RSVP?

I HAVE!!!

Got two no-shows at the last minute (colleagues and so-called friends of DH's ..) He came up with some lame excuse that he was 'stuck on a business trip' and could not make it

Uh ... hello? DH WORKS with you!! HE KNEW you weren't on a business trip, moron!!

Whew .. sorry for the vent .. honestly, I am over it!

Thanks ladies, I wish I had used better judgment with a so-called friend.

I have written off a few friends who RSVPed that they couldn't be there, and since my wedding have not bothered to call/e-mail/IM to even say congrats or ask how the wedding was. It hurts, but I'm better off w/o 'friends' like that.

Re: ? for the brides already married.

I would say that I have 'written off' one person who did not formally RSVP (but who did call me to tell me that she couldn't make it to the wedding- after initially telling me that she would be there)

She also never even sent a CARD...(I don't even care about a gift, but I would have liked to have received a card.)

This person is a former colleague. I had even told her how disappointed I was because my coworkers never gave me a card or did ANYTHING to acknowledge my wedding.

This girl still calls me to ask for 'favors'. I never return her calls. She just keeps calling and leaving messages and keeps asking me to do things for her. (basically, she is trying to get me to give her intellectual property that belongs to my company). Now, she is even leaving messages with 'deadlines' as to when she needs the information by. I just find it so funny...

DH has written has 2 friends because of the RSVP issue - One said no ahead of time but with a lame excuse and one said yes, then didn't show the day of the wedding.

I have finally written off one of my frineds because of her whole attitude to me, DH, my wedding, my engagement, etc. I just realized I don't need a miserable person like her in my life...

Re: ? for the brides already married.

I have written off a bunch of family memebers who declined for no reason. I am the kind of person that makes it a point to attend everybody in my familys functions. I love my family and feel family should be there for one another. Not everyone feels that way. But I have written off my one cousin impaticular because she was a bridesmaid in my wedding and called two days before the wedding, 10 minutes before we left for the rehearsal dinner, to tell me she would not be making the wedding because her baby was sick, which turned out to be a huge lie!! Anyway, my family lost so much money because her and her daughter did not come, both were in the BP, between dinners paid for, bridal party gifts, flowers and we bought their dresses and , which we have yet to receive back we lost a lot of money. And I never got a card of congratulations, a phone call of congratulations or even an e-mail. Nothing!! So If I ever talk to her again, it will surely be on a cold day in hell. They caused me a lot of un needed stress in the days before my wedding having to rearrange a ton of things!!

Thanks ladies.

This 'friend' was supposed to be a BM, but she declined early on claiming money issues. I gave her the benefit of the doubt, even offered to pay for her expenses, still she declined.

We have talked about the wedding since and when asked she said that she would attend. Then I get her RSVP in the mail declining without so much as an explanation.

Now mind you, I do not expect an explanation from all declining guests, but when someone states that he/she will attend and then goes and negates that - I feel a reason is in order.

Well, I had that happen with a male cousin. When he first met my now husband, they clicked VERY well. After we were dating for awhile, he asked my DH if there were any plans for marriage. My DH swore him to secrecy and told him that he was making payments on an engagement ring for me.

My cousin was exstatic and said, 'Oh Wow! I get to be in the wedding, right?!' My DH said, 'Sure'...

So. fast forward 7 months. My DH proposes. he then officially asks my cousin to be in the bridal party...not expecting that my cousin would actually DECLINE...(for money and travel issues- my cousin was planning to move to Florida). But, my cousin stated that he would DEFINITELY be at the wedding.

Fast forward another 2 years. I get an RSVP from my cousin declining the wedding. NO EXPLANATION...(he didn't even remember to write his name on the RSVP card)

My mom called him up and basically asked, 'What the hel! is going on?'

He said that he was strapped for cash and couldn't afford the trip. My mom offered to PAY for his travel expenses because he was going to be the ONLY one of my cousins to not attend. Then, he said that he didn't have any vacation time from work, but that he would call my mom back in a week or so. We have never heard from him since...

We are not intentionally 'writing him off', but we do think that it is HIS turn to try to pursue us.

Yes!!!!

My two friends. One whom I have known since 6th grade freakin forgot it was my wedding and she had two other parties to go to so she remembered last minute and picked up her boyfriend from work and came to see me at my cocktail hour (by the way her boyfriend was wearing jeans!!!!!) She spoke to me for 2 minutes and the next thing I know she left!!

Another friend never showed up whom I have known since 9th grade.

Also my aunt, uncle and 2 cousins. That whole family decided not to come to my wedding at all. Since they moved here from Poland my whole family has noticed they have changed, they were only nice to us because it was MY father who is the one who helped them get here, get started etc. My father is the one who helped every member of my family come over here and help them with living in our house first with money, car, everything you can imagine.

They totally turned on us and I have written them off, I do not want to speak to them.

Yes!

A couple people were too selfish to be happy for us and did really hurtful things. There are a few people I can think of that I'm slowly but surely cutting off as a result of their behavior around my wedding.

Re: ? for the brides already married.

We had one guy rsvp alone, then call us two weeks before and ask to bring a date, knowing how he is I told my husband to tell him no, but he made me call the hall and increase it by 1. Then, he showed up alone!! Honestly I wasn't surprised, its like him. There were two other couples that didn't come (both sent gifts). One didn't come b/c of Hurricane Isabelle - understandable. And the other got sick and lives in Mass - understandable she couldn't make the trip. So to answer your question, I didn't write anyone off for those reasons.

Here's one for you:

We had two couples who rsvped that they were coming to the wedding and never showed up! One of the couples called us and in person apologized and told us their story--they got lost and arrived very late and were too embarassed to come in. They were really upset and very apologetic.

The other couple has not made an attempt to contact us. We heard via the grapevine that they went to the wrong Vanderbilt. This is hard to believe given that we included in our invitations the address and directions via train and car. My husband and I have basically written them off for the time being. It's not that hard to pick up the phone or send an email.
