For the conspiracy theorists....

Original post by lanikai

For those of you (like me) who suspect this election was rigged, check out the following article by Greg Palast about why he believes Kerry won.

Re: For the conspiracy theorists....

I read problems last Tuesday afternoon about a polling place being rigged because there were more votes than there could have possibly been. I really think there should be a more foolproof way of casting votes. It's just too iffy. Especially with how close the election was.

WE could start with making sure everyone votes using the same apparatus. I support the good ole' pen and paper approach. Computers and touch screens are too susceptible to rigging.

I don't trust computer voting at all.

These are serious problems that should concern everyone regardless of the candidate they supported. There is a New York Congressman who is trying to get Congress to take a closer look at all this. I will post his name if I can find it.

Well, now I totally see your point! We all know how reliable exit polls are.

It's getting pretty old, guys. There's no conspiracy. More people voted for Bush than they did for Kerry. Period.

something I learned from our government.. you can find evidence to support or disprove any and everything if you look hard enough.

Well said - there is negative mudslinging from both sides and you can find evidence to support any side if you look hard enough.

The election is over - Bush is our president for the next 4 yrs like it or not....it is now time to bridge the division or at least try to as Kerry even said in his concession speech.

Oy, I see a MM movie on the horizon - conspiracy theories abound!!

I don't really believe in consiracies.

What does bother me is that I've never felt such a disconnect with the rest of my countrymen. While I respect everyone's decision to support Bush, my brain cannot compute why anyone would.. and it just makes me really sad... because I feel like I live in a totally different country and my values are different then those 'republican values' (in quotes because I don't personally think they are values at all).

it's a sad, sad day.

and it's only getting worse with all this Bush/Rove 'mandate' talk..

I know several people who voted by provisional ballot for Bush in NJ - did their vote count in a state that was given to Kerry? I mean it goes both ways...

Re: For the conspiracy theorists....

I am a big conspiracy theorist, but I'm not buying into this one. When are we going to let it rest and stop looking for ways that Bush rigged elections? I believe he stole the election in 2000, there are a lot of gray things that happened in that election. But I'm not believing this one. He won whether we like it or not. Exit polls are a bunch of B.S. The people conducting the polls are conducting a survey. Surveys are very inaccurate because they can be swayed based on how the person conducting it wants you to see it. The media wanted us to think Kerry was winning so that's the story that came out.

Maybe people that voted for Bush lied and said they voted for Kerry when they were asked face to face. Maybe people that voted for Nader didn't want to admit to it so they lied.

And as far as the way people vote, they probably could change the system to avoid problems, but if it's the same for both parties then both parties are at risk for inaccuracies. It's not like Republicans have a different ballot then Democrats do.
