FOR THE LADIES THAT SAID THEY DO NOT OVULATE

Original post by shamma

Do you still get your period?? I do not understand this concept. Don't ovulation causes you to get your period??? Please clarify. There was someone on here who said that they thought they were ovulating and they actually wasn't. If you don't get your period how could you think you were ovulating. I was trying to explain to my GF about some of the issues that women were facing in causing them not to conceive/ovulate.

So Trish ... it was after the pill that you didn't ovulate? How can you tell if you do ovulate if you are on the pill? I do get AF but could that be because of the pill?

Stef, Laura and everyone else trying ... I'm crossing my fingers for you ladies!

Just for some inspiration ladies....

My DH's best friend has been married for 13 years. All those years he and his wife were TTC. Nothing. But they didn't give up.

She gave birth to a beautiful healthy baby boy in June!!!

There's always hope.

Re: FOR THE LADIES THAT SAID THEY DO NOT OVULATE

I have PCOS and this is why I do not ovulate. I hve been on the pill for years to stay 'regular'. I will start ttc as soon as I come off the pill (in Nov/Dec). They will have me try on my own, for only 3 months, than go on Clomid. When I was younger I had regular periods, than they got irregular, than mostly non-existent. I did not start with the PCOS (or at least it did not show up) until I was in my 20's. I do not think being on the pill for a period of time, than coming off would make you not ovulate, it may just be that your body has changed. On the pill there is no ovulation, but a lot of women are very fertile when they first come off the pill, that is why they do not want us to wait, but to ttc right away.

LizD - i also have PCOS. Are you low carbing? I just started low carbing this week to try to get my cycle again. I am miserable! I feel awful!

Cira... yes, it was after coming off the pill that I found out I don't ovulate (AF graced me with her presence once after coming off the pill and then it just stopped). I think LizD said it best - when on the pill you don't ovulate, but the hormones trick your body into thinking it did, so you get an AF.

I will stress that there is no reason to believe the pill had anything to do with me not ovulating after I came off it. I have had an u/s and PCOS has been ruled out. It simply could be the stress of my job/house/TTC that is inhibiting my ovulation. Although I don't think I am stressed at all!!

My problems could have started years ago, but being on the pill, it was regulating my cycle and I never knew at the time.

Crisco, do you mean you have to change your diet?? I could not do w/o my carbs

The things I learn on here

Re: FOR THE LADIES THAT SAID THEY DO NOT OVULATE

Shamma, a low carb diet is recommended for people with PCOS. My doctor had me cut out all white flour, sugar, and high fructose corn syrup.

The low carb diet is KILLING me right now...I was doing GREAT with it for the first 3 weeks....and I lost almost 20 pounds. But, I've been bad about my diet the last 1 and 1/2 weeks and I feel like crap! But, I totally feel PMS'ed, so I am hoping that means that OVULATED this month...although, no AF yet

I go back to the Doc tomorrow to be weighed, and see about increasing my meds.

Re: FOR THE LADIES THAT SAID THEY DO NOT OVULATE

Shamma- Yes unfortunately I have to change my diet. This is one of the sacrifices I have to make in order to be regular and have a chance at conceiving. I think I was in denial for awhile and kept thinking that things would work out without me having to do this dreaded diet!! When I was ovulating my progesterone levels were very low and now that I am not ovulating at all I finally realized that there is not too much that the Doctors can do for me if I do not take matters into my own hands.

Thanks Trish and Liz for the clarification ...

The low carb diet gals ... try reading the zone or body for life ... it's lower in carbs especially refined carbs, but it may give you some food ideas and helpful hints!! I used to be a 'zoner'!

Wow, to think when I wrote this all I was very newly PG and had NO CLUE! I didn't find out until the end of September that I had ovulated in August and ended up PG. I'm thankful for small miracles

Re: FOR THE LADIES THAT SAID THEY DO NOT OVULATE

What a great thread full of such wonderful information! Here's another question. Is it safe to assume that you are ovulating regularily if you get your period regularily? If you are not ovulating would this be something that would be detected during an annual exam with your gyno?

shamma Posted:

Re: FOR THE LADIES THAT SAID THEY DO NOT OVULATE

Doreen, I think the best way to check if you are ovulating is 1 of 3 ways

1) Chart
2) Use an OPK
3) Watch your cervical fluid

If the time you go for your gyn appt, what if you are not ovulating??? I don't think that is something that can be detected by one annual exam. I do not see why you would not be ovulating if you are regular. Unless ofcourse you are on BC.

Re: FOR THE LADIES THAT SAID THEY DO NOT OVULATE

Thanks Shamma! We tossed the BC about two months ago and I have been regular since. So I'm assuming all is good to go!
