For The Newlyweds...

I need to ask this honestly, before we go out and spend a small fortune on this 250+ wedding...

In the end, is it worth it? The wedding portion I mean!

TIA

I think it was worth it for us, but we were lucky enough to have my parents give us most of the wedding as a gift, and DH's parents chipped in on traditional aspects as well....we only paid for our rings, HM, and some other stuff. BUT we also didn't go insane, and chose a hall that was less expensive than some others, and had about 185 guests, not 250+.....so I will say it depends if you can afford it, but everything we had was worth it!

Our wedding was amazing in every way! It will stay forever in my mind. I know its rough spending all that money on one day. If you read my review you will see how we kept our wedding budget at 15K but we also had 125 people which is half of what you are inviting. I didnt have the small stuff and I didnt sweat the small stuff either. No cry packs, slipper basket, no extravangent decorations, we made our own centerpieces and we made our own invites. We did put little chinese hand fans on every chair outside for the ceremony. We didnt make or have an isle runner made. I dont regret that AT ALL!! Its easy to get carried away and feel that you HAVE to have certain things because of this site. This site is great for information and help but dont feel that you have to use every vendor/idea! I find my photographer on my own and im glad I did...since I was quoted double by almost everyone else and I got great pictures. We were able to enjoy our wedding and we didnt end up in debt from it. This is an amazing time...relax and enjoy your planning.

Yes, without a doubt. I had concerns about the money too, but in the end I had the wedding of my dreams, and it was totally worth it.

YES!!!!!!! Absolutely!
As long as you take it all in and enjoy yourself~let the stress and the idea that it will be perfect disappear (bc it WILL NOT run perfectly) then it is DEFINITELY worth it!

I dont regret anything about it!~I want to start saving to do it all again........the party part of course

Re: For The Newlyweds...

i was really scared and sad for most our planning process because of all the money we spent on the wedding (and ours was only 75ppl, so i can't even imagine what 250 ppl must cost!), HOWEVER, i would not change it for the world! the day was magical and perfect in a way i could never possibly explain and we feel so blessed that we got to have such a beautiful wedding.

that said--we paid for a lot of the wedding ourselves and now that it is all over, we are having to watch our money so carefully so we can replenish what we spent. sometimes i think that it would've been more worth it to invest the money in a house or just keep it in savings but then i think of how i felt on the day we got married and i wouldn't give that up for anything.

so i guess my point is--it is totally worth it. BUT, you may be able to save money on things that you think you NEED but really don't matter that much in the end--for example, i convinced DH to spend money on a rolls royce, the penthouse suite for our honeymoon, extensions for my hair, 'extras' at the RH such as more dessert, etc. All those things we could've done without and still had an amazing day! It's easy to get caught up in the hype of a wedding but really what you need most is good food, good music and love. I know that sounds cheesy but it's so true! :)

HTH--sorry for the long post!!!

i would not change a thing and it was absouletely worth it

HOWEVER

I think it also depends on your financial situation bc if i was paying off my wedding right now i'd probably think twice about certain things & cutting back.

Ditto! It was DEFINITELY worth it BUT we paid everything in cash and had about $8K left in our wedding fund when we got back from the HM

If I knew that my money was going into paying for the wedding right now instead of a house it would be horrible!

Re: For The Newlyweds...

I had the best day, it was great, yada yada yada.

but I'll be blunt - if you think you'll even come close to getting what you spent in gifts, you can just forget it. We were very grateful for each and every gift, no matter how big or small but in total, they did not even add up to half of what was spent.

Yes. Coming from a girl who never thought much about getting married (before meeting my husband), it was absolutely worth every stress filled moment from start to finish.

I say YES. But, I would definately cut out certain things and wouldn't have stressed so much.

Re: For The Newlyweds...

no, it's not worth it if you are spending more than you can afford. it is ONE day that goes by in a blink of an eye. DH and I loved our wedding and to us it was worth it because we were very frugal and had a great wedding on a small budget.

However, if you are taking out loans, using credit cards and it's setting you and your FH back from doing something like renting a nicer place or buying a home, than NO, an extravagant wedding is not worth it, IMO.
