For those 05'ers who had long engagements - almost 2 years or longer?

We will be engaged 1 year & 10 months when we get married this summer. Dating just around 7 years.

We don't live together & don't plan on it until we are married.

At some points, the time flies so fast & other times, I am like - alright, isn't it July yet?

I am getting anxious & eager at this point - we just hit under the 5 month mark!

How did you deal? Did any of you freak out at the end even with a long engagement?

Well, when we first got engaged I wanted to get married right away. We had been together 5 years at that point and I wanted a wedding. But of course, once we did our budget we realized this was impossible. Waiting was our only option.

We dealt with it because we knew it would be worth it and our wedding would rock. We were both involved in every part of planning, so I was looking forward to it as much as my DH (who was my FH at the time ). What was hard was the people (relatives or strangers) who would make stupid comments like 'OMG you guys are still engaged?' or 'are you ever getting married?' It was so annoying going to people's weddings and being told (without fail) 'you guys are next'. We were engaged almost 5 years!

Close to 'crunch time' once we had the date, the place, the details, we just envisioned our wedding day and focused on that and the HM. It was so worth the wait for us.

Oh, and the same annoying people that were like 'when is it?' where then asking 'OMG it's so close! are you guys ready?' People suck!

So my novel, in a nutshell, tells you that we kept focused on the big day and knew it would be worth it...and did our best at ignoring people's annoying comments.

Happy planning...and it'll be worth the wait!

I was engaged Dec 03 ...FH had been living together for 6 months at that point and we went away to college together before that.

We were FINALLY married in Nov 05...it was along wait but again it was necessary to do for $ purposes
It was made easier by living togther- it wasnt like we were eagerly awating being together-we were already together all the time

we were together for 5 years and then engaged for a little over 2. at times it was frustrating and you're so excited you really just want the day to be here. but realize with more time, you have a real opportunity to enjoy the process! july will REALLY be here before you know it! i can't believe it's been 9 months married for us already! it's definitely worth the wait...just hang tight and you'll day will be here soon enough. don't forget to enjoy every moment until then, on your special day and of course every moment after!

We were together 7.5 years when we got engaged, and then were engaged for almost 2 years (short a month) before getting married... never lived together!

I was so anxious for the big day because it had been such a long time coming... I was not nervous at all the entire day and it was definetly the happiest day of my life.

So far living together has been wonderful as well... many talk about an adjustment period but we just settled in and are enjoyed our lives together!!

Good luck!!

We were together for 4.5 years before getting engaged. We were engaged on 4/10/04 and planned a wedding for 7/15/06. I was BEYOND anxious and like you said, there were times it seemed as though the time was flying and other days seemed to drag on by. We were actually booked to get married this July for quite sometime being I was in the process of getting laid off from my previous job and didn't know where we would be financially. Luckily I landed a job during my engagement and my DH asked why are we waiting and discussed pushing the date up, that was music to my ears. We met with JT and they were able to charge us the same amount per plate and moved the date up 8 months in advance...at that point the time went way too fast but it was definitely worth it.

I feel your pain but not for nothing I noticed your wedding is five months away and it will be here before you know it...trust me

Best of luck to you sweetie

Oh and the living together part has been amazing...I also, did not live with my DH before the wedding which was a decision on my part. It takes some adjusting but not much and believe me it's one of the BEST feelings just knowing that is your home as one.

first date: 03/13/98
moved in 08/20/98
engaged 03/13/03
married 03/13/05

it wasnt a long time...we kept our self busy with fun stuff and not so much fun stuff.... just enjoy everyday together and sooner then later, you will be married. a 2 year enagement isn't that long as we were origally planned for 3 years and even though about going further goes we had medical drama to attend to first.
