For those getting married at a church

Original post by cbcf

Well I changed my wedding date from Friday Sept 26th to Saturday Dec 20th.

Now I understand that my church has mass on Saturdays at 5:00pm. However I can only have a 3:00pm Mass/Ceremony.

But I changed the hall and my BM gave us a 7:30pm cocktail hour so. I was thinking it was alot of time from a 3:30pm Mass/Ceremony to a 7:30pm cocktail (3 hours) but now the Deacon just called me and said I can only have a 3:00pm not 3:30pm on a Saturday. That is a 3 and 1/2 hour gap in between the church and cocktail hour!!!!

Isn't that a BIG gap and aren't my guests going to be annoyed? I mean I kind of am worried myself I don't need 3 1/2 hours to get from Bayblon to Mineola and take pics before the cocktail hour.

Do you think I should call the hall and see if they can do a 6:30 cocktail or even 7pm??

TIA

yes! call them.

The gap isnt that big of a deal but if youre unhappy call them and see waht they can do. even a 1/2 hour difference would be good.

seriously dont even worry about it...this is VERY common with weddings especially since mass is at 5 and cocktail hour starts 7pm or later. When i get an invitation to a wedding i know there will most likely be a gap...Honestly hate to say this but mostly its just close friends and family that go to the ceremony, most guests just go straight to the reception, not saying its wrong or right but just reality. Alot of ppl go to church dressed casually and then go home after to change and go to the reception or some ppl have a little something at their house after ceremony, like a family member. ALSO arent you getting married at JT? well they have a lounge with food and drinks for those that arrive early

its your day and people are understanding of this...theres nothing you can do, churches have mass at 5pm and you have to take whatever time is available, dont stress it

yeah i mean i am not asking for anything special really - i have been really laid back so hopefully they will try to help me out with that!

i mean, they even told me that at hte CH i could have a specialty dish that my mom makes LOL i am not doing it but they mentioned that and it was funny - i could just imagine my mom in the kitchen the day of the wedding yelling at the chefs!

haha aww thats cute!!!

yeah the only thing i asked for was the change my date. and it wasnt a big deal at all...and i was going to ask about the VH but I am not sure if I def want that yet. But do you think since I have a Martini Bar at CH they can make a special peppermint martini (just really adding a peppermint into the drink)

I have a 1pm wedding and a 6pm cocktail. I think its great b/c I'll have ample time to take photos so that I can attend my cocktail hr.

it's so funny - this happens ALL the time for Saturday weddings.

I don't think it's a big deal. I hate when guests get annoyed, it's like 1 day people, 1 frigging day out of your lives is not going to kill you. It's frigging selfish.

Anyway, I say don't sweat it - if you're concerned set up a hospitality suite at a hotel close to your church or RH, let people chill there until the cocktail hour.

EXACTLY! thats what i dont get, i see people stress this but honestly this is the norm if there is a church ceremony and then reception, i dont think i ever saw an invitation and thought OMG WHY SUCH A BIG GAP? maybe for ppl who havent been to weddings it might seem weird but otherwise no...its your day, dont rush your pictures bc of this, its your one and only time to do this and youre gonna want enough time for pics...people manage trust me and they'll figure something out.
