for those getting married by a friend/family member
If you are getting married by someone who is ordained/certified/etc, but doesn't really have experience doing marrying people, what resources are you using to plan your ceremony?I am having trouble even just finding a basic guideline of what should be included. I found a few articles on the knot that helped, but just wondering if anyone had any suggestions!

We had a friend marry us, and she said her ordination paper work came with all kinds of ceremony suggestions. We did it together.

We are having a friend do ours and he signed up online and is awaiting his package. But, what does he need to do afterwards? Does he need to sign up with the state somehow?

Nope. That's all my friend had to do. She called the town of Riverhead (where my venue was) and they told her she was good to go.

Thank you so much for this! My uncle is marrying us (he previously married my brother in Florida) and we weren't sure if he had to do anything else before our wedding. I was going to call the Town of Brookhaven to double check because I didn't see anything, only in NYC I think they have to get licensed or something.

My childhood friend is marrying us. He's done a few weddings already but only for close friends. I am going to give him what we want to say. Other than that, I think he knows what he's doing lol (Or let's hope)

We want a close friend to marry us I am so nervous about the legality of it. There are so many online ordination sites and there is a lot of conflicting info online. I did call the Town of Islip and they told me it shouldn't be a problem but I am still nervous. Any advice would be appreciated :)

Did you call the town where you are getting married or where you are picking up your license?

I called the town where I live as well as the town where we are getting married all are located within Suffolk County. However I have still been researching this and today I reached out to Town of Babylon and Southhampton and this was the response that I received via emailNYC has legislation that acknowledges internet ministers, Suffolk County does not. It might be best to have someone like a judge, minister or marriage officer legalize the marriage and then you can have your internet minister perform the ceremony, that is for you to decide.
I also saw Pastor April had posted in one of the forums similar advice so I am thinking we are going to make it official at town hall before we have our friend do the ceremony just to be on the safe side.
