Do you attend regularly???? I haven't been to mass in months and months (FI won't step foot in a church other than for the wedding). I'm starting to feel guilty about getting married in a church, but not giving back to the church that hour on Sunday morning.

Re: For those getting married in a church
I have not attended church in years, and my FI decided he wanted to get married in a church. I wanted outside but I sad okay and I found a church that I was comfortable with. I started going just about every week and now he wants nothing to do with it. He won't step foot in the church. he told me he just wants to get married there. I think he is being a hyporite since it was his idea in the first place. The only reason I am still attending is because I want the church to mean something to us (or me in this case). I want to get to now the parish, the priest, and feel comfortable there. This is JMO. I don't think its a problem is you don't go. It totally depends on what you want and how you feel. Good Luck!

Re: For those getting married in a church
My FH just made his confirmation, so we've been going regularly and hope to keeo it up.
BUT - before he decided to get confirmed we only went on major holidays.
Sometimes I really find it peaceful and rewarding, other times I honestly can't wait to leave.

Re: For those getting married in a church
we're just doing the ceremony, too - i didn't think it was proper to do a full mass since neither FI nor myself are active. for some reason i still feel guilty - like the priest is going to mention that he never sees us there or something!!!!

Re: For those getting married in a church
I go once a week as well - and I've been going to the same church since I was 5. I'm happy I found a church that is so meaningful to me and a place I have a relationship with the priests. I feel it will make the day even nicer.

Re: For those getting married in a church
I have been to church twice in 4 years!!! My mom has been less frequently but wanted us to be married in a church so that's what we're doing. My FH is Hindu so we will also have a Hindu ceremony.
Does anyone know if Catholic priests still insist on kids being raised Catholic? (our will not be raised Catholic - probably just aware of both Catholic and Hindu religions)

Re: For those getting married in a church
JLM- part of the vows in a Catholic ceremony are 'we agree to accept children lovingly and raise them according to the word of Christ' or something like that. Basically, yes, the church wants you to raise children Catholic. But the church also wants you to not use birth control, obstain from sex until marriage...etc...etc...I say what they don't know won't hurt them!
