For those inviting only 18 and over...

How are you going to express that in your invitations? Because im getting married at my RH so I cant really write adult only reception to follow...

Also, the only kids I will have are the FG's and RB, but they have sisters and brothers. How do I express that only the FG's and RB can attend without offending the parents?

Any thoughts, ideas, etc.?

I put on my invitations 'Adult reception to follow.' We are having the children that are in the wedding party attend the reception but other children we decided not to include. It didnt seem to be a problem for most people and those that asked understood when we explained that we are having a small wedding and only have a limited number of seats.

Are the RB and FG staying for the reception or just the ceremony/cocktail? If they are staying is it a big deal to have their brothers/ sisters there also? It will be difficult to tell the parents only the one child and not the others...If they are only staying for the ceremony, then its much easier to just say NO children at the party. Also, in general, if you do not write 'and family' on the invite, then it is understood only the parents (but this only works for other people with kids, not your FG and RB's families)

I feel like you can still add 'adult reception to follow' even if the ceremony is there. I was thinking of doing that (and will be having my ceremony at RH also) but then I was also hoping that people would ASSUME kids are not invited anyway and I wouldnt even need to add 'adult'... I guess I shouldn't assume anything though, right? lol

Yes, they are staying for the reception, but I really can't afford to have all of the children unfortunately, and then have to explain to the rest of the family why they cant bring their kids. Also, I can't do a ceremony only for the FG's and RB because they are from out of state, so they have to come to the reception.

Oh, it's a cost factor, not just a kid factor. If you are close enough to have asked for the kids in the wedding, why don't you explain that the cost is too much to have ALL the kids come. I am sure they will understand. Just don't be upset if only one of the parents comes so the other can stay with the kids, or if they back out because the logistics on their end are too difficult.

If the FG and RB are from out of state then so are thier brothers and sisters. How would you expect their parents to get someone to watch their other children who are not attending the reception, when they are in another state? Maybe I missed something but I couldn't see traveling to another state with my children and getting a babysitter to watch them (at the hotel??)

I have to agree with RobnLauren78 How do you except them to get a babysitter if they are out of state?

On the RSVP card we stated it was an adult only reception.
