For those not inviting children....

Original post by FutureMrsJC

Are you calling the parents ahead of time to let them know so they are aware and can make arrangements, or are you just mailing the invitation and letting them figure it out?

If you are calling them first, how soon before the wedding are you going to let them know?

TIA!

Re: For those not inviting children....

I wrote it everywhere I could...the invite says 'adult reception' our website says 'adult reception, please let us know if you need help finding a sitter', we only addressed invites to the parents, so I'm realllllly hoping people get the point. If not I'm just going to tell them as nicely as possible over the phone, but I'd rather have that awkward 5 minutes than 6 hours of screaming annoying children.

I wish I had thought to put that on my Web site when I first sent out the STD with our Web site. I also wish I could easily find a babysitting service because I would have included a note that said, 'For your convenience, a babysitting service is available at the hotel should you require it...' I am thinking about still doing this in the wedding invitation, but I feel like no matter what I do, my mom will hold it against me.

Yea im having the same problem too...my friend thinks her kids are going to come and i have to tell her b/f i send anything out that there will be kids but 10 and older b/c i have two jrs.
but another problem i have is that one of jr. is my cousion's girl and she has a boy too and i have to call her to tell her ...man everyone is going to hate me....arrrrrr
this is going to be my stress!

How old is the boy? If he's not really little and you're inviting his parents AND his sister is a Jr BM, why not make him an exception? Seat him next to his sister. Heck, find a job for him and then tell your other friend that only kids in the BP are coming.

HA! He is going to be 5 and he is terror...you have no idea ....he is problem kid and if you tell him no he freaks out....his sister is layed back and so nice ...nothing like him...thats why i dont want him there..plus he will be the youngest there too and i want kids 10 and older

I think putting Mr. And Mrs. On the invites is just not enough. Some people still don't get the point. My cousin did this last year and people still wanted to bring their children. Their response was 'small children are free, they should be able to come'....how crazy is that.

I think you have to be very explicit on this...a few girls suggested putting 'adult reception to follow'.

I will be putting Number of Guests Invited-2 on the RSVP card.

We just kept it to the names on the envelope. People would mention in passing about bringing their kids and I would mention that it's an 18 and older affair.

Usually you mail your invites about 8-12 weeks before the wedding (depending on when the wedding is). That should be PLENTY of time for people to get a babysitter. But if anyone mentions it then just tell them 'sorry adults only'.

I think i am just going to write on the reception card...Join us for an Adult reception at...

Re: For those not inviting children....

We also addressed the envelopes to 'Mr & Mrs' if only adults were invited and 'The ______ Family' if the entire family was invited. The only children that will be attending are our FG and RB. Even their 5 month old baby brother (my new Godson) won't be there.

I think my FH's family also spread the word since children are ALWAYS invited. However we would've had 60+ children and 370 people invited!! AH!

just sending out the invited they will be addressed to ONLY the people who are invited, but i dont really see any confusion happening i have never really heard of anyone making a big deal about it on my side and on FH sides there isnt any kids

Ladiies.. FH and I plan on having an adult only reception .. What was your age cutoff? 18 yrs and older? 21 and older?

Re: For those not inviting children....

We did inner envelopes, so it clearly said who is invited. I'm not a fan of the 'x seats reserved in your honor' thing personally.

For some family members whose kids we are inviting I told them in advance so they'd feel better (in one case it's a special needs child and I know they feel better having him with them so I know knowing he was invited made them feel better).

I also sent out an email to people who are parents saying there's a babysitting room at the hall if anyone wants to hire a babysitter

We just sent the invitation addressed only to them. If the kids were invited than it would have said 'The Jones Family' instead of 'Mr and Mrs Jones'.

ETA: also on our RSVP card we had a line that said ' We have reserved ___ seats in your honour' and then I hand wrote in the number of seats. That way there would be no confusion as to who the invite was meant for.

call it tacky or whatever but on the inner envelope i simply wrote 'No children please' to all the guests that would have had children under 16 just to make sure they got the point

We're spreading the word orally, and the invites will just say the parent's name. We have 5 nephews and a niece, so we're able to tell people about it by talking about how we're excited to have the kids at our ceremony, and we have the time before our reception for my brother- and sister-in-laws to drop them off.
