For those of Jewish Faith...

Would it be sacreligious to Jewish people if I had a chubbah (sp) at my catholic ceremony?

Where do I get one?
How much do they cost?

Thanks!

i dont think it would be sacreligious - IMO i think it is a little contradictory if you are having a full catholic ceremony - JMO

No, i'm not Jewish. I'm not having a full ceremony. I'm having the ceremony at the place. I just think they are soo pretty.

if you are not jewish, than it really would not be considered a chuppah, more of just a tent or canopy

hope that helps, not sure of the price, have to ask the RH or Florist

I say, if you want to get married under a pretty canopy that symbolizes the home you and your groom will make together, then why not??? It's a beautiful tradition. If you were asking him to wear a yarmulke or wanted a rabbi to marry you in the church, that would be a little weird. But a canopy? It's just pretty.

Besides, remember when Luke made Lorelai a chuppah on the Gilmore Girls for her wedding to Max? She's not Jewish, and oh, it was so pretty! So if Lorelai can do it, so can you!

i agree with this- have something like a floral arch...
since u're not jewish, u wouldnt be using a tallit, so it it wouldnt be chuppah-- just a canopy or arch....

i just realized that i didn't mention this in my fm to you earlier.... i was thinking of the same thing for my wedding.

i'm a born-again, my dh was raised catholic. i wanted a chuppah also. i asked my rev. if it would be considered 'wrong'. he told me that since neither of us is jewish, that it would be better not to have a chuppah. he then stated that it would be VERY OK to have a canopy or arch.

i still don't understand the exact reason for the difference, but if you're ok with calling it a canopy instead of a chuppah, i think you'll be ok.

a ketubah is a jewish wedding contract... so that wouldnt be appropriate for a non-jew to have...
