with the wedding coming up, this got me thinking...
compared to before you were married/moved out...how often do you see your parents?

Re: for those of you close to your parents...
I moved out of my parents house on LI at Age 22 (I'm 27 now) and lived in my first NYC apartment for 3 years. Now I live with FH in Brooklyn for about 2 years.
While my parents are not far - I see them on holidays and some weekends in between, so i want to say once every 1-2 months. With the wedding it's been more often, though. I talk to my mom on the telephone several times a week.
Now that I don't see them every day, I notice them aging which is really strange and a little scary to me... they still look great!! just older...

Re: for those of you close to your parents...
The first time I moved out was with FH, about 1 and a half years ago. We live in Brooklyn and my dad lives in Manhattan (mom is deceased). My dad and I are extremely close and I talk to him at least every other day. I see him at least once a month if not more. Lori, you made such a great point about the aging!! My dad is a very very youthful 67, but I notice the aging more!! I also worry about him more and ask him if he is eating properly and if he is ever going to quit smoking!! I hound him every other day about that but it is hard considering I am not there to see what he is doing!!

Kathleen,
Good for your dad! Youthful 67!!
As my parents age (not to be depressing) but the thought of life at some point without them starts to become a reality... you mentioned your mom is deceased, so you've already begun to experience this. When did we all get so grown-up?
FH and I are taking both our immediate families to Italy with us for our wedding... neither family has been there, and we both love to travel... so we figured what better way to get them to Europe, than by force. LOL I'm looking forward to this once-in-a-lifetime experience that we're all going to share together, and look back fondly on when we're ALL old and gray!

Re: for those of you close to your parents...
I moved out on my own when I was 22...I am now 30. I have lived in NJ...then Queens...then back to NJ. But...I manage to see my parents at least 1 or 2 times a month. Whether they come here or I go there...there's always something doing...a birthday party, holiday, etc. My brother and SIL had a baby so we visit often. We would love to move to FL...but I don't know if I could stand to be so far away.

I moved out when I was 21. I am almost 26. The last couple of years I lived in Midtown Manhattan and then Astoria. I would still see them at least once a week, I loved to go home and visit. Now though because I am getting married and I moved across country to live with FH, I am lucky to see them once every 2-3 months

Re: for those of you close to your parents...
my mom moved to montauk about 3 1/2 years ago. i used to wonder how she could call her mom EVERY single day, like what new could be discussed? then i realized that the every day phone calls are a way of keeping tabs on the people you love and now we talk on the phone almost every day. i see her now probably once a month. my dad and i used to talk about once a month, but circumstances have changed and i want to put in more effort and talk more. as i have gotten older, i have realized that i love my family sooooo much, no matter how nuts they make me, and i want nothing more in the world than to let them know i love them.
